Hi
How about a pot roast? My OH always makes this on a sunday.Throw all your onions/favourite veggies and stock in and let it cook for a few hours on low,delicious!0 -
Hello oldstylers, I'm shortly going to cook tea - we have a lovely loin of pork, and I will be serving it with mashed potatoes and sweetcorn.
I had wanted to do a BBQ sauce but we don't have in the sauce I wanted to use and I'm not sure that a Chinese sauce really goes with mash!
I have a cupboard & fridge full of all sorts of ingredients so please give me your ideas (nothing too tomato based though please, and nothing with apples as I don't like pork & apple) for a sauce or gravy to go with it.
Pork will most likely be cooked in the pressure cooker, though I could cut it up if I needed to fry it.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
Stir some wholegrain mustard into the mash."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Thanks, but I need a sauce idea, or would you just serve the pork cooked "as is" with gravy?A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

Yes I'd just use plain gravy because the mash would have a tang of its own. Can you do something honey-based as a sauce? Honey and garlic to cut through the sweetness? Maple syrup? Apricot jam and soy sauce, with garlic mash/garlic sauteed potatoes? Something with sage?"Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Mmm some garlic and a little touch of honey (because I don't like too much) & mustard sounds like a great combo.
Or garlic and sage (I always forget sage) pork with gravy & mash, yum.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
If you don't want anything to overload the pork, how about a honey and apricot jam glaze for the pork?
i use this recipe, but use jam instead of actual apricots..makes it nice and sticky too http://uktv.co.uk/food/recipe/aid/6112460 -
I don't really like fruit & meat (plus have to watch the sugar intake) so not one for us, but still a good idea.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

I think I would stick with mash and cut the loin into thick slices and cook them in heavy frying pan, then deglaze the pan with either cider or wine and add some single cream, salt and pepper to make a simple sauce. maybe some nice green beans to serve with?
or another sauce could be a chutney type - Plums are lovely with pork. sounds mad but it does work.
or make up your own bbq sauce - I find tomato ketchup mixed with brown sauce and a bit of worster and some sugar cooks up a nice bbq sauce!0 -
Sage pork (in the pressure cooker) & gravy was so moist & tender & the mustard mash was lovely. - not a scrap left on either of our plates!
Thanks for the other suggestions (though I should have mentioned along with fruit I don't like alcohol in my savoury food either)! lol
The only meat & fruit dish I don't hate is duck with plum sauce (but would only eat that rarely)! I don't mind certain fruits in certain vegetarian dishes weirdly though!A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0
