Do driving test examiners prefer driving schools?

Wrong - during your driving test, you're meant to drive AT the speed limit, if it's safe to do so. To do otherwise would make them think you don't know the speed limit through poor observation, or aren't CAPABLE of driving at that speed.
I don't believe this, and I also don't believe the OP where a reason for failure was "driving at 45 mph in a 50mph limit". I bet the OP has no written evidence of this.
So I went off looking for something written that says you have to, if the other traffic is driving AT the speed limit, drive AT the speed limit too. I realise 30mph and possibly 40mph would be not making proper progress, but 45mph would never be unacceptable.
I found https://www.gov.uk/general-rules-all-drivers-riders-103-to-158/control-of-the-vehicle-117-to-126
which makes no reference to driving at the limit.
Would the experts on here and they seem to include examiners, point me to some documentation that backs up your, and the OPs postulation that you can fail for 45 in a 50?0 -
Do your really think an examiner or ADI would have a 100% pass rate.
The test is marked on the number of minor faults or major faults there is no such thing as a borderline, if a candidate has below the maximum number of minors allowed and no majors they will pass.
Depends what your examiner says. I remember mine saying I nearly had another minor on the same section (max 4 per section) which would have been a fail. He said rest of test was spot on so didn't put it down plus it was near the end of the test.
I also had my instructor in the back which helps to cut down on examiner making up failings.0 -

There is no maximum of 4 per section.
The criterion is whether a particular driving fault is habitual. You could fail with 3, or pass with 6.0 -

quite clearly the candidate was not up to the required standard on the day of the test hence the fail.0

I had the same chat with the one I passed with.
One of the three minor faults I got was the right turn across the busy road back into the test centre 'for hesitation'.
He actually said that he wouldn't have given it if it had been the difference between a pass and a fail (this was when 3 minors = fail)
So sorry cajef but it seems no matter how much you spout the handbook, the reality is FROM EXPERIENCE different. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

I'm not an expert at the driving test. I don't know about the specifics of 45 in a 50, as I say we're only allowed to do 45 on L plates here in NI anyway, but I hope that you do believe the general 'rule' (no I can't quote it) that on your driving test you should be demonstrating your ability to observe and obey the speed limit. That means changing speed up to and down to the speed limit before and after the sign respectively, if safe to do so. If you potter around at whatever speed you like, you'll be failed.0 -

Believe what you want I do not spout the handbooks, as a qualified ADI I am talking from experience and I was involved in driver training in various capacities for many years.
Would you like to inform me just how much experience you have had of taking candidates for driving tests over the years.0
