I have a Sony Viao sve151d11m (yes very Old indeed!)
The hard drive is gone and I have found something on eBay here
Not much else comes up on google. I would be grateful if someone can tell me if I can order one off the shelf from ebuyer or amazon or something like that which may be slightly faster or heck even look at an SSD or something?
I am just not sure what spec the above hard drive desk (HDD) is what type of HDD I should be looking for.
Many thanks in advance

a quick google of that drive shows that it is sata 3 suggest looking at http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007NVGWV0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
twice the capacity newer and cheaper
if you are only using the laptop for a bit of browsing etc , and not much storage then a ssd would be better 60g minimum http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingston-Technology-2-5-inch-Upgrade-Adapter/dp/B00A7J925I/ref=sr_1_4?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1424191653&sr=1-4&keywords=ssd0 -
Thank you so much. Size wise (for Non SSD), I dont have to get any conversion kits or anything and they'll just slot in nicely in the existing spot right?0

Same hard disk much cheaper on Ebuyer
http://www.ebuyer.com/451200-toshiba-500gb-internal-hard-drive-px1826e-1he0
or pick any 2.5" 500GB from here
http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Storage/cat/Hard-Drive---Internal/subcat/2.5%22-SATA-Drives/500GB?sort=price+ascending0 -
yup it should take a 1t drive ok , that one I specified , I have bought before , and am happy , amazon have a money back procedure , if you wish to save any date from your old drive then something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/JUSTOP%C2%AE-Portable-Drive-Enclosure-Black/dp/B00I5N93SO/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1424191963&sr=8-8&keywords=h+drive+caddy
would allow you to put your old drive in , and copy files.
do you have a copy of your old operating system , or is the windows id number still on the bottom?0 -
Pretty sure the ID is still on the back so should be OK. Thank you both. Got what I wanted. A SAtA 2.5"0

You need to research that particular model, some old laptops had a hidden partition on the drive, a HPA (hidden protected area).
This technology was only on IDE hard drives, these are now very hard to get and if yours had a HPA then even buying a convertor (IDE to SATA) will not work.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Host_protected_area
My IBM Thinkpads all have this HPA and although they're still going extremely well (and fast) for 10 year old laptops, I know once the HDD goes, there is very little I can do.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
