Subject access Request - EDF

Hello all,

I have recently had massive problems with EDF - I wanted to get copies of phone calls as they seem to lie when ever I talk to them.
I phoned EDF and asked for the email address and I emailed off my access request - 60 days later I havent heard so phoned EDF and explained - I have just received a letter asking for proof of address etc and the letter states that I would get the info within another 40 days - they claim the email address I was given is wrong - Does anyone have the subject access request email address? so I can prove that the address I was give is correct - the email didnt bounce back - so I know it is a real address - any help would be great

  • By law, I believe EDF are required to provide an email address, etc for the Data Manager who is the person that you should write to with your SAR.

That information should reside "prominently" within the PRIVACY POLICY statement, which usually will be found at the bottom of the home page of the supplier.

Under the Data Protection Act 1998, you are required to pay a £10 fee. The Data Manager is ONLY expected by law to reply within xx* days from clearance of the cheque/remission of funds.

    * Time limits vary dependent on the sector - e.g. education is relatively short, but most other sectors are quite a bit longer (30/40 days).

If you Google the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), then you will find helpful guides and material relevant to your objective.

If you are unable to find EDF's Data Manager (as suggested above), then check for the detail on the ICO's register - if you still have a problem on that, then phone the ICO.

    Hope that helps. Good luck.

Email is not always an accepted method , I do believe they can request proof of address to verify that you are entitled to the notes
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • If you're serving a SAR on them, it seems reasonable for them to send it to the relevant address without further argument. Only if you were asking for the details to be sent to another address might they want some sort of proof. That said, it seems to me they are just B*******g you about. And almost certainly they'll have lost any recording of phone calls, or they'll claim they were never recorded, or they routinely delete them after 30 days. I would be very surprised if you obtain them.
