Don't go via the LA, they want to make money from you and the LL by getting you to sign a new contract.
Contact the LL directly and discuss it politely.0 -
Why cant the landlord just see the situation we are in and agree to a rolling month? 6 months is just so restrictive and the house will easily be re-let within a 4 week notice period.0

so basically what everyone is saying is let the tenancy revert to a periodic one.
b) A Statutory Periodic Tenancy (SPT) can arise automatically. No agreement, signature or fee is needed for this. Often known as a 'rolling' or 'monthly' tenancy.

Whatever the contract, or agent, may say, a SPT is a perfectly legal alternative (Housing Act 1988 S5). No action is required to create a SPT: when a FT ends, a SPT automatically arises on the following day if the tenant does not leave.
I should imagine the landlord will then seek action through the court to take the house back.
I and my wife do not really want to go through court action.
He might go through the courts, or might just leave you to it.

This saves him money.
He may say yes, but until you ask you do not know the answer.
If you go to court you may well be granted 6 weeks anyway. It does not go on your credit record etc etc.........If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

He can. If he knows.
But if the agent doesn't tell him that is what you want, he won't know.
The agent won't want to tell him that is what you want - because they don't make any extra money from it.
Which is why you have to contact him directly.0 -
The LL cannot 'double your rent' if you don't sign another term. Staying put is not going to cost you a huge amount of money. Possibly court fees if it goes that far but that's all.0
