Just remember if they live in Donegal they will NOT have access to the NHS unless they commit fraud like the majority of folk around the border !!! (Come on..... it's true!!)
Can you not still use Granny's address like the school children in Derry and Newry do?
Was reading in the paper a few weeks back, some £250 million a year isn't recovered in NHS treatment costs for Irish citizens. Would cost too much to try and collect. We'd be better trying to properly integrate the boarder health facilities.0 -
According to all the government types I've spoken to we'd still be entitled to NHS care if we lived in Donegal as our sole income would be from hubby's job in the UK. If I worked we'd be means tested for a medical card, so no fraud going on here![STRIKE]DFD 22/7/14[/STRIKE]
OD £1200 ~ CC1 £1875 ~ CC2 £1275 ~ Tesco £4757 ~ Creation £235 ~ FIL £25750
DEBT @ 28/03/2018 = £35092

Speaking as a filthy Mexican myself, once when I was visiting my BF up here I injured my back and was taken to Beldoc. I tried my hardest to pay for the visit but no one would take my money! I couldn't understand why no one wanted me to pay!0 -

would you seriously listen to All "government types".???
just because your main income is from UK you would still be "resident" in the Irish Republic so "technically" would NOT be eligible..... whether it's enforced or not is another thing....
I do know a LOT of people even come up here from as far as Dublin to buy their prescription as it's cheaper than in the republic.... MIL's friends regularly do it....0 -

If someone 'in government' is going to assess me and decide to give me a card that allow me access to free medical care I'm going to use it. Coz, you know, it's free[STRIKE]DFD 22/7/14[/STRIKE]

We are seriously considering a wreck in Donegal but it is a complete mess and across the border and an hour from Omagh etc etc, but it';s nice to dream
Thanks for the advice re the A5 and 'villages'. Every little nugget of information is more to add to the knowledge bank
225k will get you a nice sized detached property no problem, also consider the kids education if thinking of Donegal. Education will be based on country of residence regardless if tax paying in the north. I'm NOT saying education in the south is any better or worse than with us, but you will have more choices of schools in the north.
Donegal is beautiful I live 20 minutes from it and visit regularly, but to be honest I wouldn't live thereI am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0
