Windows Essentials / Firewall not enough protection.
You need to use 3rd party firewall/visus scanner.
Phishing emails could be through a hacked PC or email account. Or your email address has been put into a list of email addresses that scammers use.
Change your passwords, update software, start using junk email filters.0 -
Even Microsoft admit that their Security Essentials package isn't up to the job. I suggest you remove MSE and install Avast Free Antivirus in its place.

During the install process they will encourage you to buy their upgraded version so ensure you scroll down and find the free option to select.
Otherwise, as OneADay says, install junk email filters and see how you get on from there.0 -
Mailwasher (http://www.mailwasher.net/) is excellent for avoiding email spam and phishing. The free version only operates on one email address, but the paid for version is not overly expensive if you like the programme.
It lets you read emails on your without bringing them off the server, and you can check the source code if you have any doubt.
It shows the sender, marks some sender addresses as spam automatically, and you can set up your own filters as well if you wish.
You can then delete manually, or choose automatic delete - though its best to be a little careful with this.0 -

You could try using the thunderbird email client, it's junk filters and scam detection are quite reasonable.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -

Kaspersky has the highest detection rate of known malware and records the fastest speed of response to new malware threats.
