Happy Shrove Tuesday
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good morning everyone
Hope nobody minds me starting the thread off. I can't sleep so I thought I would surf the web for a while until hubby gets up.
It's too dark to see what the weather is doing but it feels quite warm here, certainly better than the bitter weather we had last week.
I'm going out today with my friend to keep her company at a hospital appointment and then we are going for a coffee afterwards. She needs a break from being the sole carer of two poorly teenagers and it will be lovely to spend some time with her putting the world to rights.
Dinner last night was lovely but I succumbed to a small piece of lemon cheesecake in the evening. I wish I hadn't bothered to be honest as it didn't taste of anything much. Never mind, the girls helped to finish it up so I wouldn't be tempted :rotfl:. I'm making chilli tonight with baked potatoes for me and everyone else will be having chicken goujons, baked potatoes and beans. They are all wimps when it comes to home made chilli, I do like it quite hot though.
I made pancakes yesterday for everyone as the grandkids were not going to be here today but my daughters are begging me to make some more today. If I get time I will but it gives me a terrible back ache standing by the cooker for hours flipping the dratted things so I will see.
Well that's all my waffle for now, hope you all have a great day and may your pancakes toss for you :rotfl:. Take care xx0 -
Morning everyone
Thanks for starting the thread, was running a bit late so that’s helped.
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, looks damp and dreich still.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit but will be waking him before I leave for work, as plumber is coming back to sort the boiler out, and DH decided that his father should be here with DS2 so he’s coming over at 8am, plumber just after that, hoping FIL doesn’t bring MIL with him, can do without her here at that time in the morning! Think I might need to leave for work a bit early to be honest though!!
Dinner last night was fish, chips, beans/veg/salad for the menfolk, I had fish, jacket potato and veg and salad. Tonight will depend a bit on what’s happening with the boiler, will I have running water etc, could be full English or may do a roast med veg tart with jacket pots/new pots etc. The last time I made this I made it for myself as menfolk had something else, and I was then going to have LO’s for a couple of days, they spied it, asked to try and promptly ate so much I got my serving that night and a tiny piece left for the next day – they ate the rest.
Work yesterday was a manic Monday – had a couple of really tricky cases, a daughter whose mother came in with her, and was more difficult to deal with than the daughter who was the customer, at one point they were both sobbing at the desk – fortunately not because of anything we’ve done, we’re just the one’s that are then left to try to pick up the pieces and assist people to move forward. In that case I was able to assist but also advised to seek help through other agencies – as difficult as it is for them now they will get through this and move forward. The other I’m just not going to dwell on it, customer was rude and arrogant to me and left unhappy as didn’t hear what they wanted, they’re completely in the wrong and can’t understand why the case has now been taken further. Working at the other office today, so will be a change of scene as haven’t worked there for a couple of weeks due to staff shortages at my normal office.
I quite like getting to the end of Tuesday as I know then I only have half a day at work, then my days off and weekend starts!
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. By heck but it's a cold one here this morning. A thick frost everywhere. I looked out in the night and I have never seen the stars shining so brightly.
Still feeling very sorry for myself. I sneezed and blew my nose non-stop yesterday. I looked like Rudolph by bedtime. I alternated between hot and cold all night, tossing and turning, coughing and sneezing. I think I feel marginally better this morning so maybe over the worst.
It's a decent forecast for us today (for a change!!) so planned another canal walk. Maybe it will clear my head. This time a short stretch of the Leeds/Liverpool canal finishing up in Bingley, after admiring the 5 rise locks. Then a pub lunch in Bingley. Just hope we get the promised nice (albeit cold) day! We'll be wrapping up warmly!
Have a good day all whatever you are up to. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning :hello:
It rained for most of the day yesterday so I stayed in and pottered about. The temperature dropped last night so it's lovely and frosty outside. The ground was very wet though so I hope the roads aren't dangerously icy.
I could get into this home delivery for grocery shoppingThere's free delivery until the 19th so I'm going to do another order sooner than I need to, to take advantage of that.
I spotted a new program and set it to record – River Cottage Australia. I watched it last night and really enjoyed it. It was on either channel 4, E4 or More 4 – must investigate so I can record the rest of the series and find ones I've missed on catch-up.
I've finished one blanket, just waiting for a delivery so I can do the border. Sammy Snake will be pleased, I've almost finished making his girlfriendI just need to make her eyes, will do that this morning.

Morning All
Wet and breezy here. Washing back on the airers! I have stripped the bed from the visitors so there's no hurry. House could do with a good tidy up and hoover but I was too tired last night. Fighting off this cold and having visitors for the weekend has taken it out of me.
I did enjoy the visitors though, but they have eaten me out of house and home! We had lovely home cooked meals which is something they don't get very often as my cousin works very long hours and her husband doesn't really know how to cook - they are in their mid fifties but he had never even had a girlfriend until he met my cousin, they married 8 years ago.
Didn't bother cooking much for tea last night, DD had a baked pot. Will have fishcakes tonight. HM soup for lunches.
I hope you are all ok, not long till spring! Take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
Not been out yet but it looks very cold out of the window, will wrap up warm.
It was very busy at work yesterday, full of kids enjoying the half term break, I think today will be the same.
Fish for dinner tonight with new potatoes and peas, and I need to get some eggs to make some pancakes, dd is here and although she is 20 is insisting on me making them !
Meanmarie, I am so sorry to hear about your friend xxxx
All ebay people have now paid so I will post the remaining ones tonight.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone.
Had a good drive down from home, mild but with rainy patches. Didn't encounter any big lorries going my way so the drive was pretty clear until the flying geese roundabout. Usually by that time there are more people on the move and I get stuck behind a driver who thinks that a flat 40mph with a reduction to 20mph at a bend is normal.
Had my breakfast banana and got a cup of tea on the go at my desk.
No idea what the working day will hold, I may be up for a rumble/grumble/rant....
Hope everyone is warm and well.0 -
Good morning everyone and its Pancake day so I know what I'll be doing with the boys today
:):)
I have a very croaky throat at the moment and am doing my utmost to get rid of it before Saturday when we all travel to Norwich to visit my DGS Ben at Uni.
Its seems all good news at the moment My eldest DGS Danny is off to NYC for his company on Saturday for a short while . He went to Estonia a few weeks ago, so it will be quite a change for him.He loves and knows the city quite well though so he won't get lost
His sister Holly who is finishing her PGTC has been offered a job teaching at a primary school in the Medway I am so pleased for her as she has worked her socks off these last few years
Yesterday was my wedding anniversary, and my youngest DD arrived home with a gorgeous arrangement of yellow tulips and gypsophilia, they are a really lovely glimpse of spring, and I have them in my conservatory so they will keep longer as its cooler out there.
She is such a caring lass and never forgets,I stayed to dinner last night at their house which was nice as she doesn't like me to be on my own on my anniversary bless her.
DGS Mikey donated an old pair of jean he had grown out of and I will cut the legs off and turn the legs into drawsting bags to store my Christmas wrapping paper in.The jeans have attached outside pockets (cargo pants type jeans)and I shall make some gift cards and store them in the pockets and hang the bags on the inside door of my study so they are ables to store my stash of paper rolls (normally in an old carrier bag which is a bit flimsy)I saw this on another forum and have been waiting for Mikey to outgrow these trousers,:):) he's the youngest boy so no younger brother to hand them down to.I think they were passed down to him from his next-up brother Henry .Great way to recycle them. The top part will go into my remmnants bag for patching up any pair of jeans that the boys have torn or ripped:):):)
I must phone my dentist today as some crowns in the bottom are feeling a bit sensitive and need looking at.Old age is probably the reason for gum shrinkage a bit I think as they are feeling a bit looser:):) There are times being old isn't a lot of fun ,but it beats the alternative
:):)
Quiz night tonight which I always enjoy ,hope the weather perks up a bit
Have a great day chums what ever you are doing

Good Morning everyone, cold and frosty here this morning but we also have blue sky and sunshine so I expect it will warm up in not too long. We have a trip to Makro this morning lined up and are lucky enough to have neighbours who run a business and authorise us to use their card once in a while. I need another sack of sugar, I buy the biggest I can which is 25kilos and it lasts me right through the year including for jam and chutney etc. I also am buying in bulk toilet rolls and a couple of big bottles of laundry liquid it's much cheaper to get the big size and decant it into a smaller bottle when I need to than carry back and dispose of lots of smaller bottles. Other than that I plan a trip to the library to return some books and maybe some ironing this afternoon. I find I'm not sleeping at all well these days and am starting to doze in late afternoons is this a sign of old age I ask myself?
Have yourselves a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
Good morning,
A nice bright day today with a blue sky, a good day for a 71st birthday. Himself doesn't like a fuss so it will be fairly low key.
Will pop out later to buy a few bits.
Lyn, they are called "Nana naps" or as in your case "Omar naps"I do this, and sometimes I only need 10 minutes and I am fit to go again. No shame in it, it just means we then have the energy to carry on a little longer.
Have a good day everyone
