Yes, it makes no difference where you use PayPal the protection is the same. So as long as buyer paid for named goods, and did not send payment as a gift he is fully covered.

No, it does make a difference.

People don't seem to understand that PayPal can be used by two individuals to send money to each other.

That is not the same as clicking the PayPal logo on a website and using that portal to pay for goods or services off that website.

The OP would have protection in the latter case, but because they went off eBay and sent money directly to the scammer's PayPal account, the transaction has become the former, and won't be protected.

It was a pp invoice with a pp "Pay Now" button.

  • if you have paid for goods or services (even out of ebay) you will get a refund , however if it was paid as a "gift" , then you are snookered.

I bought a android tablet from china , on the companies website , it did,nt arrive , paypal refunded me.

the only problem is when you ring , it will log your number , and immediately they will ask , "which ebay sale was it", once explained , they will act

Thank you but I do understand PayPal , even payments made between private individuals where the money is sent as a payment and for eligible goods is covered.

Yes, from other online websites that PayPal has vetted - but not via an email from Roderick Mbengo in Lagos

And you can find something in the PayPal Ts&Cs that supports that? So I can send money to ANYONE with a PayPal account and expect buyer protection if I tell PayPal the item I agreed to buy from them by telephone hasn't shown up?

I edited the 1st bit you quoted (ebay & ebay) Should have been paypal and ebay...

Yes anyone can sell something to anyone, It doesnt have be an approved site.

This site can have a sell and swap section and its safe to use paypal and you as a buyer get full protection exactly the same as buying from a seller on ebay.

Im im selling something to you on this site. I send you an invoice for goods, you pay, If you dont receive them you open a dispute and i have to prove you received them exactly the same as if you used ebay.

The platform you did the transaction from is not the issue. Paying the seller for goods and not banned/uncovered items or sending gift payments is the issue.

I use plenty of forums that have buy/sell/swap sections and paypal is used by most people when it requires posting.

LuBo, On the invoice did it state the goods that you were buying?

    No, it says
    "Money Request Details

    Amount: £250.00 GBP

Note: From eBay, I'll be posting in couple of hours and I'll add tracking etc x"

I (like many others) buy and sell classic motorcycle parts (own use) on a couple of forums , its common practice to say "gift" to get around the 4% charge by paypal

however as a gift , you are not covered by paypal protection
