Bad experience with opening Nationwide FlexDirect account

Hi all
Recently applied to open a Flexdirect account and accepted. Paperwork started to come through until i found i couldn't register for internet banking, later found out i have 2 different customer numbers, phoned customer services to try and find out why this was and which one to use. They didn't have a clue, to the point where i asked them to close the account before i even started using it. With this initial experience i lost complete confidence in Nationwide. Shame really as the 5% interest for a year would have been nice.

You don't get two Nationwide customer numbers by applying just once for one of their accounts. You don't need to burn your bridges with Nationwide if one of their operatives tells you you have 2 customer numbers.
Sounds a case of cutting your nose off to spite your face.
Perhaps be a little more careful with your next application.0 -
Sounds very odd.
Opening my FlexDirect account with Nationwide was one of the easiest account applications I ever made. I have also found them one of the easier banks to deal with.
I agree, don't cut your nose off to spite your face.
Good luck.0 -
It sounds like you don't have very good experiences when its comes to applications.

On the contrary, i've applied for many different accounts in the past, received sort code and account number for new Flexdirect but mailed 2 different customer numbers. Customer services could see these on their system but couldn't explain why this was the case or indeed which one to use for internet and telephone banking.
I'm chuffed that nobody else has had issues with nationwide here so far and it was just something i've experienced. Managed to open a Club LLoyds with no issues whatsoever.0 -
My OH and self both opened Flexdirect accounts in April 2014 and we both received two customer numbers! I rang Nationwide at the time but could not get them to understand! However that said, have used the second customer number received for logging onto internet banking and to date have had no problems (the first customer number was not recognised).0

Thanks AB56, at least i'm not the only one experiencing this but maybe i was a little hasty in closing account and should have tried both customer numbers.
Need to make sure i've had my caffeine intake in the morning before i get on the phone to customer service reps

I moved to Nationwide last year and setup a joint with the missus, I don't have one complaint! I've had to call a 3-4 times since and they have been a pleasure to deal with, calls are instantly answered with no long-winded IVR etc.
So happy with them over the last year I have now accumulated; my current account, a joint account, a credit card (good 0% purchase offer for 15m), a personal loan (some of the cheapest rates) and my first mortgage!! (again some of the cheapest rates)
Now Nationwide, where's my commission?

My wife also ended up with two customer numbers when applying for a FlexDirect online. We didn't realise until they pointed this out in branch and were scratching their heads (they mumbled something about this being highly unusual). Has not caused any issues though - the "old" customer number is not recognised, and my wife logs onto internet banking etc. with her new number that was sent in post following set up of her new FlexDirect.
I have a feeling it may have to do with the fact that my wife wasn't logged into internet banking when she applied, so for some reason they couldn't match her application to her existing record so assigned a second one.0 -
I was already a Nationwide customer and I applied for a FlexDirect account and got a new customer number. I accidentally applied as a new customer rather than an existing one. One phone call to Nationwide and they merged them together, internet banking now shows all my accounts.Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.
ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.0 -

Seems from others experiences the 2 customer numbers is indeed not unique to myself.
Apology accepted Colsten
