Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
What a great update Wishus it sounds like you have had a really good weekend. I like the Man in the Iron Mask, it's a great story. If sad.

Libraries are great places aren't they. Long may they continue.

So... I'm trying to calm myself after OH went and got himself a chippie takeaway on the way home. To eat at home!! Where we have food. Give me strength!

It's not much, but I'm here rushing my work because I need to get a payment to make sure I can cover the tax and Christmas...

Anyway, he's having a kip at the mo, because he's not used to a normal day. I've told him Professor Alice Roberts is on telly, so he is trying to wake up now... major crush territory for him, she is. I don't want him to sleep through... crikey sounds like managing an infant, doesn't it?

I've also recorded Martin Lewis and Supershoppers while I got on with work.

Bright side: Technically, I'm up... picked up 20p Roadkill today which goes with £1.58 I've found in the last 2 weeks. Yay! :j

Well done on the roadkill! Oh dear on the OH chip buying. Hope you manage to keep him up a bit longer and reset the sleep pattern. I'm sorry you are scrabbling on the tax front. Never a nice feeling.

About to go to bed... slightly wheezy, but have Salbutomol.

Finances discussed and much shuffling of monies done... overspent in Aldi, despite making a list, and still forgot flour. But still... that's every meal now planned until payday! :j

Lists are great. All the Christmas shop was done in 15 minutes. Dale Winton, check out my supermarket sweep! :rotfl:

Still need to pay for the rest of the meats and buy drinks for guests. Real Strongbow and Pimms is required, not Taurus and Austin like what I'd have. Heck, I've still got my homebrew! :)

  • I'm a total listaholic. I don't know how I'd shop (or live) without one.

I hope the wheeziness isn't too bad. My hubby is asthmatic too.

    A strange weekend.

    We've had happy - celebrating a friend's 40th birthday.

Just hours after learning our friend had passed away.

Tomorrow I need to go to work with a bunch of cookies for a festive cookie swap... I've made the cookies from a recipe on the Grocery Challenge - good old dependable custard cookies.

I might be a bit low on the festive cheer though...

Oh no! Did you know your friend was sick? Or was it a shock?

Hi Cheeseface. Hello everyone. Relieved to have got through Christmas... feeling sad about Carrie Fisher, Richard Adams and Liz Smith. George Michael was a shock too, but I wasn't a huge fan of his music. Star Wars was the first film I saw when I was 4, with my dad, and I fell in love with Leia then... and I loved Watership Down and The Plague Dogs.

I'm ready to go back to work, but worried about the walk to the station as I fell over yesterday and hurt my knees. I hadn't even been drinking! Just my clumsy feet on a dark street with a cracked pavement. Went down like a ton of bricks I did. Didn't even graze anything, but I'm bruised and clicking like a pair of castanets.

Christmas was stressful as we had guests coming over, and OH was cooking... but he hasn't done much lately so I had a heck of prepping to do to make sure things were clean and tidy and he had everything he needed to hand. The Christmas tree didn't even get decked until Christmas morning!

I do think I've seen a slight improvement over the past couple of days in OH though... I think because the day was a success and it's over. We had a great time with our friends. One argument at the start of the day with a guest... but that was just him stressing, and he calmed down. And she understands.

One drawback was he wanted to plan the day out and he's not great at adapting and varying recipes, so whereas I thought we had Christmas shopping all done bar some onions and more milk, we ended up with another list to follow recipes in my M&S Christmas book exactly. We found some 5p sprouts, but 'had' to spend £3.10 on chestnuts. And we had to buy enough booze to sink a ship because he couldn't remember if another guest was a lager drinker, and wasn't sure we had enough of anything else. So, another £60 got spent. And we have loads left... including ALL the lager. Ah well... no need to spend anything for NYE, I suppose? I've still got ALL my homebrew left, too! :rotfl:

And the guests... pretty much left half of what was on their plates, and that wasn't down to OH's cooking, as that was spot on! Too much chocolate orange nibblings.

I don't care if it's not on... I scraped their leftovers into pots and we've been using those up over the last couple of days before I even got onto the rest of the roasts. :money: Still quite a lot to eat! And due to the generosity of OH's brother who bought too much food but is less practically inclined when it comes to portioning and preserving, we now have so much food in the freezer, there will be no need to do a main shop in January, or February probably. It's like a game of Tetris in our freezer. :rotfl:

And the hardship... no room anymore to fit our rhubarb in there. I suppose I'll just have to use it to make rhubarb vodka with.

I finish Christmas even more skint than I wanted to be... but am hopeful.
