Driving to london - parking at edgware tube
Hi,
I have to get someone to an appointment in London in March and the train tickets are just far too expensive so I am looking at driving from Nottinghamshire to Edgware and parking there, then catching the tube to central London.
I am not the most confident driver but the M1 route looks fairly straightforward, getting off at J4 and parking at the Broadwalk Centre long stay car park. I have seen the adverts though for booking a person's drive on just park, so this would guarantee a parking space.
Do you think this is feasible and has anyone done this before? Setting out at 7.30, the appt is at 11.30.
Any advice would be helpful please.

Hi, Don't know your travel dates but a random date I chose gives a train cost of £36 to £46. Cost of fuel, parking, stress of M1 in peak times, travel time of 2h30(minimum - listen to travel reports for the M1 for the chaos which can exist) to Edgware plus walking and then travel in to whereever.
What I am saying is to review the decision to drive.
I have no recent experience of that journey.0 -
Thanks for your reply, I have gone through as much as I could. Train tickets for us are minimum £55 return and 3 people have to go plus the visitor oyster card £13 x 3. £204
Tank of diesel £50, plus parking £10, plus oyster cards £39. £99
I thought that it would be better driving as having never traveled that way before, would like some feedback as to the difficulties I may have.0 -
I head down to London often from Nottingham way. I go down the A1 and park at High Barnet tube station. I currently avoid M1 due to roadworks.0

Broadwalk is right next to Edgware and only 7 or 8 minutes from J4 of the M1. The journey to Tottenham Court Road is 30 minutes on the tube. The southern part of the M1 is a bit gruesome in the morning rush our sometimes.0

A year ago I travelled daily from Northamptonshire to Wembley down the M1 and rarely had a hold up of more than 15 minutes. However, there are long term roadworks and a 50mph limit on the M1 between junctions 15 and 19 which will slow your journey on a good day. Unfortunately any breakdown or accident through this stretch brings traffic to a stop (as there is no hard shoulder) so be aware and make allowances for any delay. There seem to be several of these delays per week, although mainly on the Northbound carriageway. Traffic volume will also slow things down around Milton Keynes and Luton during the rush periods.
Have you considered going down the afternoon before and getting a cheap Premier Inn/Travelodge deal? Could remove the stress should there be a delay on the roads.0 -

Unfortunately, this is not an option due to work etc. We have already had to take the day off work for the appointment.0 -
Hi,
Would this be better for me then do you think? What is High Barnet like for parking?
Thanks
Depends on how easy you can get to the A1 and where your destination in London is. Never had a problem parking at High Barnet tube station, it's easy to find and its about £5 for a full days parking. Definitely my first choice when forced to travel into the city.
I did park once in Edgeware when taking the father in law to the Cricket and don't remember having an issue parking at the tube station there either..............0 -
Nottingham to London Victoria in 2 hours 45 minutes - by bus.
Costs a heck of a lot less than the train.0
