Emirates flight delay

Manchester to Adelaide Friday 6 Feb
Flight delayed 3 hours
connection missed in Dubai
Had to spend 24 hours in Dubai
Emirates booked us in hotel room and food
Caught flight onto Adelaide next day.
Our luggage arrived 24 hours late.
Any info on best way to claim and from who ?
Insurance or airline ?
Can I contact airline for possible upgrade on homeward flight which I would be happy with.
