An important issue with regard to printing off your boarding passes -
If you have pre-booked your seats you can check in online up to 30 days before travelling and print of your boarding passes. This is fine for most travellers who go away for a week or so.
If you go for the cheaper non-booked option like we do then you can only check in and print them out 7 days prior to travelling.
This means that if you go away for a week or longer then you will have to check in online and print out your return boarding passes while you are away from home. If your hotel/apartment has internet and printing facilities this is not a problem. If internet access is an issue then you need to establish a means of printing your passes or, as mentioned in other posts, getting your boarding passes on your smartphone.
The 7 day rule can be quite restrictive because if you are away for a week then you can't print out your boarding passes at home unless, for example, you depart from the UK in the late afternoon but your return flight is early morning - i.e. less than 7 days (say 6 days 15 hours)
Yes, it can be confusing but this requirement has caused quite a lot of grief for passengers since it was introduced last year.
Aside from that, another tip is that the food and drink on the aircraft can be expensive. We tend to buy a Boots meal deal at the airport once we are through security (not before) and get a sandwich, snack and drink to consume on the plane.
 Have a good holiday.0

I last flew with Easyjet (Have never used Ryanair) and I printed out boarding passes and checked in online where I got my seat numbers in advance. When I got to Edinburgh to fly back for example, I checked in my luggage and handed over boarding card and got told where to go. Through security - remove shoes, belt if needed. No liquids, you can buy a drink afterwards. Than mooch around for a bit although I made sure I knew what gate I had to get plane from. Got to the gate early where I took a seat before they opened the gates. Premuim boarders went first before the rest of us could board.
I flew quite late for my first time I was about 24.
Note that the no liquids in hand luggage requirement also includes things like sun tan lotion. I was once prevented from bringing a jar of jam back from Italy. I had not planned to bring it and then changed my mind at the last moment and shoved it into my rucksack.0

And oh before the whole problem this Summer I had to prove my phone was real and my camera was real and had to show last photo. This was way back in March 2012. Was no big deal, but was taken too one side and checked. And had my belt swabbed flying out there.
Haven't been asked to switch on any equipment yet. Last time I had a phone, iPod, camera and kindle paperwhite with me and was half expecting to be asked but it didn't happen.0

I was very annoyed when this ryanair rule was enforced, we had booked our flights months before they introduced it.
To get around it for us, i logged into my booking and we paid for pre booked seat on our return journey only meaning i could check in for our return flight while checking in for our outward flight.
This rule has seriously put me off flying with ryanair again. Finally dealing with debt: 01.01.2015 -£10,562.:(

Its not the airlines , rather its the airports and it depends on a number of factors. Last time I went thru airport security at Luton , the rules had been slightly relaxed. Shoes were looked at, but I did keep mine on.
Belts with small buckles were allowed. But still a few people were given the 'pat ' down. AND because of political correctness my white mother at 85 was searched but a young male of dubious origin sailed thru . But hey ho , boxs have to be ticked.
How dare they search a white person! Those PC loons... We should be able to just stroll through while those Arabs and others of "dubious origin" are subjected to interrogations.0

It's more an American rule than a European rule. I wouldn't imagine they'd ever check unless the airport is also handling flights to the US - and even then I think it's a bit hit and miss.0

It was at Jersey, CI, I had that aforementioned check. The Very Right Honourable Lady Tarry of the Alphabetty thread-I just love finding bargains and saving moneyI love to travel as much as I can when I canLife has a way to test you, it's how you deal with this that matters0

Ok not politically correct but we have all seen tick boxing happening.
My elderly white mother is a rarity now, when the airports are filled with much younger flyers.
So they pull her aside so they can be 'seen' to be impartial.
Maybe if we had a little more common sense, watching a WHITE grandmother with her grandchildren make her way thru security and being stopped AND then seeing a number of young males of .... your words, "dubious origin" stroll thru with out a glance. Makes a mockery.
Stop all if you want a fair system .
PS if you find this message distasteful/ racist or just wrong. Tough. I call it as I see it.0

They usually pull people aside if the scanner beeps. That's the only times I've been pulled aside.Ok not politically correct but we have all seen tick boxing happening.

They do no such thing. They search anyone that sets off the detector and anyone they see as vaguely suspicious. They don't randomly choose people for no reason and they certainly don't target elderly white women to make themselves "look impartial". And you know full well that those are NOT my words, being a PC loon I tend not to label anyone with a different skin colour to me as being "dubious"...
You're being racist - pure and simple. If you want to be a racist then so be it, but at least have the decency to admit it. I can assure you that "calling it as I see it" and "I'm not PC" don't fool anyone...0
