My android phone died/broke/smashed during the week - So I replaced it - but my data is irretrievable (the screen is unreadable) - If I log in on-line to the google account - is the data going to be there or is the google account only a backup for transfer to other android devices ?
I am mainly after my contact list...
The added problem is that I don't remember my google login for that device at the moment...

When I had android phones, the contacts were just transferred automatically to the new phone by google once I had signed in....
In fact, when I changed to a Windows phone and signed into my google account it downloaded all the contacts there as well.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

This is a different google account - I assumed that if I used the sane account on my new phone - it would overwrite the old back up...0 -
It depends if you saved your contacts to your phone only or to Google - and the sync options setup - only you know that
More than that I know no more - sorry.0 -
I backed up the phone - to google - so assume that everything was saved (to google) - is it now possible to login to google on my PC and recover the contact list ?0

Try it on a PC right now! - If you log in as the same user and assuming your old phone sync'd occasionally then it should be easy to get the data. Once logged in, goto Gmail, find 'contacts' and they should be there.
When I got a new phone recently, once logged in it self populated with all my old contacts and data (a lot of data like places visited, wifi passwords etc)

You have to log into Google Contacs site - link below might work
https://accounts.google.com/ServiceLogin?service=contacts&passive=1209600&continue=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2Fcontacts%2F%23&followup=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.co.uk%2Fcontacts%2F
If the contacts were getting synced with Google, they should be there.
You can export them into a file and import into new Google Account.
If you cannot access your old Google account, you would need to reset password if you can and access contacts via the above link. Of course assuming you know what the google email address you used.0 -
I have tried to log in to google on-line (using my back-up email account) but it only gives me access to my latest google account - this implies that only one google account is allowed per (back up) email account - which can't be right ???
How do I access multiple google accounts on a single back up account ?0 -

To be clear you have one new Google Account and one old Google Account. And you are able to log in successfully with both accounts on a PC?
If that is true, what you are probably not doing is signing out completely from Google.
Use two browsers - log into both accounts in separate browsers.
Now go to Google Contacts link.
Export old contacts to a file.
Import file into new account.0 -
I have successfully recovered my data but this just includes the google address list, which I don't use
I was talking about the phone contact list - which appears not to get backed up - never mind, there are other things on my mind at the moment !!0 -
You may be able to connect the phone to a computer and with the right software you can recover the information you require. A phone repair shop will be able to do it if you can't.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
