We were recommended Hills puppy food specifically for large breed dogs, our Labradoodle loves it and especially as we can feed her wet & dried forms. We understand it should help avoid her from developing joint problems and certainly keeps her fit and active. Although more expensive than other diets we buy it from here www.drugs4pets.co.uk which reduces the cost and the service has been very good. Hope this info is useful.

Hmmm ... dog food not tested on animals ... think about that one for a minute.

If the product has not been tested on animals then you are testing it on your dog so you are a right sod aren't you ?

When we say 'tested on animals' - we dont mean, the animals have tried it to see if they like it. We mean these people are rubbing the food in the dogs eyes/ears/nose/skin to see if they can provoke any reaction, force feeding and over feeding dogs to see how sick they will get etc..this isn't natural.

  • From what I've heard, Burns is the best. I don't trust James Wellbeloved as it is part of the Pedigree company :(

I'm looking into switching my dogs to Burns, just need to find sites with the cheapest price.

  • Hi! We used Hills Scienceplan for both our boys when they were pups - our Springer initially turned his nose up (obviously used to wet food) - so i used to add some luke warm water into it - he LOVED it after that. Royal Canine is another one we used.

www.zooplus.co.uk is who we would use for our dry food.

    Hope this is ok!

How do we go about finding out which brands test or not?
Have a look at the Uncaged website for details of pet food suppliers who don't test on animals. :)

PS. Another vote for Burns from me!

I think it's sold on petsupermarket which you can usually get a discount on if you have a look online at the discount voucher sites and go through quidco and spend the right amount for free P&P. If you go to the Burns site you can request a sample - not sure if there's an easy form to fill in or if you have to email, I can't remember, but when I got my sample it came with a £5 off voucher.

Whoops, thanked you instead of quoted you! I don't think you can get it much cheaper than the norm. The only place I have found it cheaper (only about 40p off for the 2kg bag) is at the Pet Warehouse in Blaydon. Not sure why it is cheaper - it's still in date and all seems above board. Let us know if you do find it cheaper!
