Identifying source of a CCJ

I just signed up for a credit report from Noddle and there is a CCJ active, dated Oct 2010 for £474. I don't know what this is, the only information on the report is that it was granted in Northampton (nowhere near where I live!). How can I find out the source of the CCJ so I can clear it from my report? Of all the people shouting for money at the moment, none are for this amount so I am not sure how I can pay it - but presumably it will just sit there blackening my report until I do.

I can't help with your main query, but Northampton is the court that processes small claims in England

Perhaps you could contact them ?

I'm not sure if the information would be available from trust online.

  • Thank you for that. I have a reference number, so I will give them a ring tomorrow and see what information they have.

Thanks for the suggestion. Looking at the website though, it seems they show the same information as Noddle so I won't pay for a search with them.

It should give some information on who it was for, even if it is only a one liner.

You can't clear it from your report, if it's recent you can have (with good reason) have it set aside. It will be too old now, you'll have to wait until it falls off.

Please note, the search results do not contain any details of the claimant. This information is available, to the defendant, from the relevant county court.

  • Ah, I didn't notice that. Thanks, Fermi. I guess I will have to call Northampton then.

I have been unable to locate anything which states there is a time limit on applying for a set aside so as far as I am aware this could still be done-but I suppose a court may question why it tookso long to query it. But if the OP works out this is in fact an account they did owe something on it is very possible that the original creditor would reapply for the CCJ and get a newer date, so pushing back the time it will fall off the credit file anyway. Plus the whole process takes time and costs a few hundred.

I would say OP probably should clarify where it is from-it may already be a creditor they are paying back through a debt collector anyway as CCJ's don't update amounts owed.

TBH this will drop off the file Oct 2016 so probably easiest to leave alone.

OP the creditor won't remove the entry for payment and it going to a settled account once paid will make very little difference to your credit rating.

I would leave well along tbh.

Good Luck whatever you decide to do.

The pert of the civil procedure rules is:
    (2) In considering whether to set aside(GL) or vary a judgment entered under Part 12, the matters to which the court must have regard include whether the person seeking to set aside the judgment made an application to do so promptly.

So it's something to be taken into account, but not a fixed time limit.

So it drops off even if it's not been settled? I might as well wait, then, and see if they reapply Oct 16 - in which case I will at least know who it is to cough up the money.

    Thanks all for the input.
