DD has recruited me for a bake sale next month.
I need to work out how to get cheap ingredients (I get reimbursed for them but want to minimalise costs).
Is the soft spread marge any good for butter icing do you know please TM?
    Where's PD when I need advice :D

Still sorting out my room :o half way there and so far I have 6 bags of recycling, 1 for burning details/info, 2 bags of clothes for charity and 2 of general crapage. :rotfl: Can't wait to finish it now.

You can use soft spread marg, but unless you have a strong flavour to mask it, it leaves a funny taste in your mouth (Dotty you can have that innuendo for free :p). Also if you're piping icing it doesn't always hold its shape. I usually use the £1 basics butter as it's pretty flavourless but holds its shape pretty well.

For flour I use Ts everyday one (45p for 1.5kg), for sugar it depends on who I'm baking for (I use the expensive stuff for family/friends and white caster sugar for everything else), eggs I get 15 for £1.25 in Ts. For icing sugar I buy 3kg bags in Costco for £2.59 each (cheapest I've found it anywhere).

    Hope that helps :)

    I think she is great.

I have to admit the male to female is fab, but it is clearly a professional.... so should not be allowed.

    Go Ruth!! :T:T:T:T

Flippin' heck SSM. I was skimming to catch up and thinking you were AWOL again. Then when I post there you are right beside me! Stalker. :D

No date yet, will give you a shout when I have a rough idea (should find out Monday)

Thanx Hun, I may be sneaky and resort to icing sugar and water like I have before.
That way when the sprinkles icing goes belly up I usually blame the kids :rotfl:
My cakes would never win a beauty contest :D

It's a shame you're not near London (I'm assuming), I have quite a few cake toppers/sprinkles that need using up by April/May

It doesn't always pay to stash unless you are super organized which I am not! Today went through my stash of 3vs only to find 2 have expired. £50 down the drain less of course the discounts and points. Have been sorting out the rest of my stashes today and must stop buying!
Noticed on last night's reductions that the 3 for 2 come off on some peas I bought. Only saved 13p but every little helps and could be a more lucrative perhaps on the right things.
Naebarric - good luck with all the wedding plans. We went through this last year and you are right it is is very expensive but also great fun so enjoy! Have a look at the wedding board for some tips on how to save money. OH made loads of bits for dd as he is handy with wood so saved lots of money there and added some nice touches. Made tubs with names and date of wedding and planted up with geraniums in the colour theme. Plus wooden hearts going over top table and blackboard easel for seating plan.
Now need to read back and see what I have missed.

I did visit one of the older threads many, many moons ago and was snapped at back then, hence I left, and I see nothing has changed.

You are obviously welcome here as long as you agree with everybody else, voice an opinion that doesn't fit in with others and somebody immediately shoots you down (not you aau1, I hasten to add)

Nobody disputes anyones right to have a different opinion but there are ways of stating your feelngs without appering judgmental. I don't know what you said on the older thread that resulted in you feeling that you were jumped on - and I certainly don't care enough to waste time searching it out - but if it was similar in sentiment to your latest post ie a bit cutting and unnessarily harsh towards a struggling 17 year old then I am not surprised that you feel unwelcomed.

    As always, just my opinion.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion. :)

Nice that we can all debate about it as adults:)

Indeed, we enjoy a mass debate on here ;)

Oh wait, just read the 'adult' part :p

That is your opinion, the one I stated is mine which I am entitled to voice. Because I did does not make me wrong.

Some people may have watched it and voted on that but many many more will have blindly voted because they had been asked/cajoled.

If that's the way you want to win, fine. But as I said, it's a hollow victory.

I appreciate that but I was not asked to vote blindly, I was asked to watch the video and make up my own mind . I hope she does win and it will in no way be a hollow victory, and that is my opinion and as you said I am entitled to that.
