My DD is getting married in Italy in August and I'm worried about finding a dress for it - I don't do dressing up, or heels, or make up.
I have heard good things about the JL personal shopper service but haven't been brave enough to use it. I'm not good at making decisions with or without help.
DD says Phase Eight and Coast have dresses she thinks I will like.
Have you considered hiring an outfit? The hire shop where my daughters got their prom dresses do mother-of-the-bride outfits.
Otherwise I would look for pre-owned to keep the cost down. Ebay or charity shops. The bigger charity shops can have an incredible selection of dresses that have been to just one wedding with their first owner.
I like the idea of the party in the paddock, might think of that here for the friends and family that will not be going to the wedding.
Good luck, keep us posted.0 -

I bought an outfit for a May wedding last week.
It's a simple shift dress in navy and orange print, with cap sleeves and a neat scoop neckline. I also bought a short-sleeved cardie in navy to wear with it. Debenhams sale intro, 20% off new summer ranges.
I'm wondering whether it is dressy enough, although I am only a guest.
I will have a look in the East outlet, though. Love their clothes.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

I have been doing the rounds as MOB in the summer I hate my shoulders and arms on display. I was thinking upmarket high street but MOBG upped the anti so I have also gone for a designer outfit ( I only have one daughter). I have shopped around for Hat shoes and handbag and have it all ready to go now I just can't wait to wear it hope you find something fabulous OP.0

Groom and his mother not speaking at the mo, so I am not sure what she is planning to wear, nearlyrich.
Pollypenny, I like the sound of your choice. Actually I have a little-worn navy shift. Might pick out one of the colours and try to find a jacket to match. Definitely don't want upper arms and shoulders showing.0 -
Navy is very "in" this year you should be able to find a jacket to suit, bit concerning that the groom isn't speaking to you hope you get that one sorted...0

Groom is speaking to me, but his mother is not really speaking to him at the moment.
Glad that navy is in. I am not looking for a navy jacket. There are bits of white or green in the dress I might try to match.0 -
Don't rule out the chazzza shops.....
I recently picked up a beautiful midi length pure silk dress for £10. - perfect for a wedding, posh dinner, race meeting etc
I haven't got a specific occasion coming up but I bought the dress anyway. You never know, I might get invited somewhere nice:rotfl:
You've got a few months yet so if I would you I would just keep browsing and wait and see.
The other idea is to buy some beautiful fabric and get a good dressmaker to make you something. That way you will have something special and unique which fits you perfectly and flatters you.0 -

It's enabled me to wear different dresses to each of the DS graduations. And to cover any random weddings.
Talking of weddings, the last ceremony which DH conducted I obviously had to be there early, and several of our friends were also involved so a little gaggle of us ladies were admiring each other's outfits. We were ALL in charity shop finery. The best one was the friend who'd manage to pick up a dress with matching jacket, and shoes and handbag to match, from three different shops!
But as I've already said, I'm not sure I'd have the nerve to do that for a DS wedding. Would probably try the John Lewis route first.lessonlearned wrote: »The other idea is to buy some beautiful fabric and get a good dressmaker to make you something. How's the dress hunt going....
I picked up a lovely dress today from the chazzza - again perfect for weddings, posh dinners, cruises (I should be so lucky:rotfl:), parties, etc. paid just £4. There was a whole rack Of them.
Definitely worth start looking in the chazzas now, they are starting to display their spring and summer "collections":D0
