epilators in hand luggage??

Has anyone successfully taken an epilator through airport security?? I don't want to risk it being confiscated but would quite like to take my new purchase out to our holiday home. Any thoughts please??

I take my shaver in my hand luggage - google tells me that an epilator (never heard of one sorry :o) is similar
  • Not an epilator, granted, but I took a Halogen Oven in my hand-luggage once. The only thing I got was at one of the scanners/checkers (UK end) wanted me to empty my bag to show them that it wasn't a bomb - we guessed it was because of the wires, and timer dial!
  • I put my epilator in the suitcase and got through airport security. :D

Just make sure it is charged, as while it doesn't really count they can ask you to turn it on to prove what it is. Are you going for an extended trip if you need an epilator?

There's no way that an epilator could be prohibited from carriage even in hand luggage, any more than an electric shaver, which I often carry in mine. Some airport security, such as Spanish, sometimes require such electrical items and cables to be taken from the bag and put separately for scanning.

Just ensure that it can't switch itself on accidentally, especially in checked-in luggage. Many years ago a friend of mine was taking a vibrator as a present for his girlfriend. The flight was held up while everyone had to identify their bags on the tarmac. Finally he had to open his suitcase and display the whirring object, much to his embarrassment and the entertainment of all the passengers and handlers.
