looking for advice for my credit report

Hi Guys - new to the forum.
I've had quite a bit of bad luck with regards to my credit report. When I was 18 (7 years ago) i wanted to buy a car, but couldn't afford to save up and buy one so I got a small-ish loan. I was paying the payments on time with no problems.
Then out of the blue my company decided it was going to make redundancies as there wasn't enough work on to keep everyone. I therefor couldn't pay my loan. As I was still young (20 at this point) and didn't have much experience I struggled to gain employment. The loan ended up going to a default - (i was so annoyed by this as i had PPI but for some reason they never paid my payments for me! and to this day that was never resolved) so anyway, I got my self another job and immediately arranged to start paying my loan off again, and from then on i didn't miss a single payment and its has been fully paid off for around 4 years now. this default will be removed from my file in a few months time thankfully.
I also have a default from 02 that I honestly do not know why, it was about 5 years ago but I thought i'd always paid 02. This will come off my report next year I believe.
So at this point im almost happy because my report is almost clean! I've worked hard on trying to get it back to being a good report over the past year... got myself a credit card and made sure i paid the amount each month to build my credit score up. made sure i was on the electoral role at my new address. Made sure i didn't miss any payments.
But then... more recently I have found that I have a default from admiral car insurance, which was about 3 months ago. I never knew i owed this amount and I'm not even with them anymore! the amount was for only £105 but seen as I didn't know i owed it It has defaulted. Only reason I noticed it, was because i checked my credit report. I contacted admiral about it claiming I didn't owe them it but they insist that I do, long story short I was going back and forth with them via email arguing the fact that i didn't owe them and they simply wouldn't accept it. I have agreed to pay the amount to the debt collectors that they have passed it onto, but I'm left with another default on my report that will be there for another 6 years!! that's the bit that has annoyed me, I don't care about having to pay them £105.
My question is... (and i know people will of asked this already, but i want to ask with my own circumstances) is it possible to get the latest default removed off my report seen as i didn't really know about it till it was too late? (and i still to this day think i didn't owe them anything.)
I had several problems with admin errors with Admiral, and every time they were unhelpful and even blamed me for them. I hadn't missed any payments until this mix up.
sorry for the long post, but i really need some advice on this as i want to get a mortgage next year and if i still have defaults it will be hard to get one.

What you need to do is gather every single bit of correspondence between you and Admiral and go through it with a fine tooth comb to see where this charge has come from. Have they given you a breakdown of what it is for? Did you let your insurance lapse and not pay it?
Send the debt collectors the [url= https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2607247it letter[/url]I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. Thank you for your response.
I now know why they say i owe £105 but i don't agree to it.
its a long story - sorry in advance.
I was paying my DD on the 21st of each month as i got paid on the 20th. I then started getting paid on the last working day of each month instead, so I asked Admiral if they could move it back from the 21st to the following 1st. They said not a problem.
So the 21st comes around and they take a payment, so i thought hmm maybe it wont take effect till the following month... then the 1st comes around and they take another payment, which means in about a week i had paid two months worth of payments. I phoned them up and asked why, and they explained that this months still comes out on the 21st and the following months payment was brought forward to the 1st. I wasn't aware that they was going to do it that way, i thought they were going to move this months back a week and take it out on the 1st. So i said ok sorry i wasn't aware it would work like that, can i just keep it coming out on the 21st and you refund me the second payment you took out on the 1st as i dont want to pay 2 months worth within 1 week. The guy on the phone said "go to your bank and cancel the 2nd payment, I will then add it to the remained of your policy, so each month will be £20 extra to pay for the payment you canceled with the bank" ... I was a bit skeptical about this but seen as he advised me to do it i did. a few weeks later i get a letter from admiral saying i have missed a payment and if i dont pay the remainder of my policy (which was about £600) in full within 7 days they will cancel my policy.
As i couldn't afford to do this I thought right i'll just move to someone else as i've had enough of them messing me around. I thought that was it, seen as the two options were pay in full or have it canceled. I only noticed they had defaulted me when i checked my credit report, and by then it was too late.
when i spoke to admiral about this they claim i still owed them that months payment that i was advised to cancel - but in the letter it never said if they cancel it i still have to pay the months payment, they only said pay in full or we cancel your policy. If they had of put that on the letter i would of paid the £105 and that would be that, they would have their money and i wouldn't have a default for the next 6 years!
Again, sorry for the long post.
Hope you guys can give me some advise.0 -
Ah ok. In that instance I think you'll find that Admiral were in the right as you did miss a month's payment and you'll be hard pushed to get the default removed.
All you can do now is contact Admiral and state you've paid off the missing payment and grovel nicely and ask if they could remove the default as it is affecting your chances of obtaining a mortgage. If they say no, nothing you can do unfortunately.I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards.
