Countdown to payday and serious debt busting :D

    5,595 VS 10 months

Payment one - will make it on 24th, it be 558 with minimum and extra payment but I want to see if I can stretch an extra 42 to make it 600 :)

Thinking to work really hard and scrimp and save for 10 months and then will only have one loan left!! After these 10 months I want to relax my debt busting a little. Loan 2 is on a good apr (4 something) and its 140 a month. By christmas the car will be payed off and hopefully loan 1 too, freeing up lots of money each month. I'm thinking of making minimum loan 2 payments then and have a good few months of saving and allowing us to live a little bit more. I really want a holiday next summer, so as long as we save for it I will allow us it :D

Then I'll be back to tackling loan 2.

This is giving me focus and something to look forward to! I decided to keep loan where it is as getting 0% card might temp me.. No more cards!

I will amend my signature to allow me to concentrate on this goal

It's payday tomorrow and the first of 10 payments. I'm excited :D

I had a little wobble last night, I don't even know why exactly, I think maybe I'm still hoping for a quick(er) fix? I applied for a 0% balance transfer card to pay off the loan (the one you can transfer money straight into your account). But was refused! I'm not sure why as my credit rating showing up 4/5 on noddle with no defaults or missed payments?

But in a way I'm happy as I know I have to keep plodding on and there is no quick fix. A much needed reality check :)

Will be back tomorrow to update my totals!

you do sound excited about it being payday and payment day

DO get a 0% card move the debt then get an old icecream tub and fill with water and pop you card in there so you cant get at it unless its a real emergency I actuall put mine in a zip lock bag and then took it out and filled the tub so I could get the card in the middle - I thought it would take so long to thaw I would think twice - I never did use the card and paid off the debt - you are doing so well and all that money on interest could go towards that holiday you want

Argh.... I'm failing at the first hurdle... Ok maybe not that dramatic... But I'm feeling very cautious and worried about making 600 payment :S

Since being paid yesterday I already had 44 unbudgeted spend.. 27 of it was on some much needed clothes for son- one pair of jeans, one pair of chinos, smart t shirt and another t shirt (all his jeans are too short!). And the rest on bits for sons leaving party at his childminder and a loaf of bread. Just checked the receipt and the cake was 7 I was sure it was 4 Argh.. Anyway :)

Also had to withdraw 50 cash, 35 to pay for a days childcare (inset day at school!) and 10 spending money for son on said inset day - childminder taking him out. I know 10 is a lot but I often give my daughter 10 here, a 10 there as she is old enough to go out with her friends and my son doesn't get pocket money as such... And I will keep 5 for my lunches

Still not heard about the ring, God knows how much that will be!

And last but not least, had some unexpected news that daughter will be going on a residential trip to France.. Which will cost.... Wait for it....... 500!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This trip is next year and we will be able to pay in instalments, but I will need to pay 50 deposit now.

When I was growing up I never had an opportunity to go on any residential trips, due to our family not having money but earning just enough not to be entiteled to help. I feel like the history is about to repeat itself here... Even though we earn about 3 times as much as my family did... So I want to make sure my daughter will go. Even thought it's a joke at 500!!

Due to all this and the Easter school break and husbands birthday coming up I have only paid off 300 in total. So half of my 600 target.

But if there's any money left at the end of the month I will make another payment. Off to update my signature even though it's not the figure I wanted.

    you are not falling
you had unexpected expenditure so you need to be realistic and as you say if there is money in the account at the end of the month you can pay it then

I think you are right in trying to send your daughter to France - it will be a great opportunity for her - if you save 50 a month from next month you will have it covered and a bit of spending money - if you give her a set allowance not 10 here and there she can also save for her own spending money that experience will be good for her

I too have had unexpected spending I have had to buy my daughter a vacuum cleaner - I have had to pay for an op to remove 7 deciduous teeth for my small dog before the new teeth set in and gave him problems

then Dh bought a bench for the garden
and I have had uncontrollable bipolar spending
and next month I need to pay mot and four new tyres those alone will be about 400 (we are a one car family so have a shogun and a bicycle:) )

so we both need to do our best and see if we can be strict with our budgets - but our children cant go without - that is what being a mum is all about

Thank you Aaleigha, it means a lot. I think part of the problem as well is setting unrealistic targets which are hard to meet.. Maybe we should focus on the positive.. As long as we are not adding to our debt and it's going down we are doing well and are moving in the Right direction :)

    Let's keep going Xx

What's that saying...? 'Aim for the moon and land in the stars' or some such thing? I always think it's best to aim high and even if you don't make it you'll still have achieved more than if you hadn't :)

Totally agree, as long as the figures are coming down bumps in the road just don't matter :)

Just got a call about my ring... Not good news! They estimate 305 to repair it. I just cannot justify this at the moment (or ever really especially considering that the independent shop told me last time that the diamonds they use are not good quality etc... Even though it was an expensive 1000 ring in 18ct gold with 0.5carat diamonds...)

Not sure what the next step would be. I am considering pawning it

It has sentimental value, don't get me wrong.. But doesn't make sense to keep it if I'm not repairing it. Or repairing it at 300 quid for it to break again in the future??

    Oh dear....
  • I'd put the ring away somewhere safe, and promise yourself to get it fixed when you've saved enough money to do it properly. It's worth getting done, but at the moment you've got other priorities, like DD's school trip. Do NOT pawn it. Focus on the result you are working towards, these little detours do not matter, you're heading a little closer to that DF destination every day xx

    Evening DFB,

Sorry to hear about the ring, thats not good breaking twice like that!

I dont blame you for letting your daughter go on the trip. We had a similar situation here a few weeks ago but our DD is only 8 so we decided there will be plenty of opportunity once she gets to secondary school. Plus this was £800 for skiing in Italy!!!

    Happy Friday (for tomorrow!!) xx
