Sorry, but I think that the mistake was yours in not checking that your bank switch had gone totally to plan. And if you did not have access to the internet for a year why didn't you ensure you received paper bills for you accounts?
I have just switched banks and have watched all my payments being transferred like a hawk. It is called personal responsibility.
I think you may need to notch this up to experience and realise that you have to keep a tighter eye on you finances in future.
