Roof bar removal
I have an 02 reg golf. It came with thule roof bars when I got it and as I no longer have need for them and it is seriously lowering my mpg I want to take them off.
The issue I have is with the 'fit kit'. I've googled but because the 'fit kit' is vehicle specific it isn't helping.
I have lifted up the outer housing and used the green handled key to loosen the screw. I have lifted up the lever on the rear of each mount.
The bar and mounts are now loose but still attached by a plate which 'hooks' over bolts on my car. The bolts are under the rubber seal around the door frame. I can't unhook the plate from the bolt. I'm sure there must be a trick to it, but I can't find it! Help!
TIA

As stated in my original post I have searched (that's what I meant by 'googled') and all websites or videos I can find are either the wrong roof bars or the way it attaches to the car is different, either because of the car is a different model or make.
I'll call the help line tomorrow. Another issue is I don't know what model they are.0 -

Have you slackened the green t-handle as far as they will go? I'm pretty sure the the plate that comes down from the foot pack over the top of the door aperture has a little pip that locates in a corresponding hole on the upper door frame. Slacken the t handles as far as they'll go, then apply downwards pressure on the bottom edge of the fitting kit plate and they should pop out. If unsure, come back to me with the reg for your car and I'll check which kit you have.0

if you're able to plug the square "key" into the end of the rack and loosen the bracket then the rest should be straight forward. All versions of the rack will work in the same principle, theytighten around the button shape prong underneath the rubber seal
You just need to loose the bracket and just lift it under and over the button.0 -
If it's an 02 model it should be a 1051 fitting kit. As a new member I can't post links but if you google
thule 1051 instructions
the 1st result has the instructions.0
