Quick question

Hi all,

Off to NYC in a couple of weeks. I was thinking of getting a new CC for any spends over there (just in case I decide to treat myself). After a quick bit of research this site suggests the Halifax Clarity Credit Card is best for travelling, but I don't understand how that's better than a 0% purchase card? I have a good credit rating and pay things off quickly (well as best as possible). Any advice on which card is the cheapest to use? I don't intend to put money onto the card before I leave. Just looking for the cheapest / securest way to have some spending money abroad for a week.

Thanks!
:beer::j

    0% purchases card is only good for use in UK as most of the card providers that offer 0% purchases cards, don't offer fee free transactions abroad which is where Clarity card comes into effect.

    With the Halifax card you don't get charged for spending on your card abroad or withdrawing cash from ATMs.

    Ah NY, I went there for Christmas, have a great time! :)

    PS in NY you get charged to withdraw cash from ATMs, no getting around this and nothing to do with Halifax. It's only a small fee ($3) so if you want to take cash out, do a large sum (think $500 per day was the limit out there) to cut the cost down.

  • Thanks candyapple! I did think that was the case however I was a little unsure. I will apply for the card, and then use it only in NYC (probably won't buy much if anything...though I do fancy a new ipad mini!). I will pay it off when I return anyway.I bet it was great at Christmas!! :D

    Yes it was epic!! Take me with you? :rotfl:

    I just remembered, there was one bank/cash point that didn't charge a fee, I think it was TD Bank (check their website for locations) unfortunately I only found that out on the last day lol.
