A cheap item isn't worth sending tracked. If it is worth less than £20 then just get proof of posting and claim from Royal Mail.

It depends though, as someone else mentioned, you can send items tracked from My Hermes for £2.78 - which is pretty much the same price as a second class standard royal mail parcel.

Fortunately I've only had to claim from Royal Mail once but it was fine.
Many buyers also don't like having to sign for something or collect from a depot so for small low value items it really isn't worth the hassle of getting a signature.

Well if it's not worth sending tracked, then you can't complain when eBay simply trump you in their decision.

Tracked and Signed For are 2 different things - you only need a signature for items worth over £150 (this may have increased actually). If you use a Hermes Parcelshop then you get it even cheaper.

People tend to respond in kind and if the OP displayed the same kind of attitude with the buyer as they have on this thread then it is hardly surprising the buyer has given them short shrift.

I would also suggest that you send items the next day which is much more acceptable to most buyers.

I recently had a similar issue to this.

Buyer bought the item on eBay and I sent it the next day and got proof of postage. About a month later, buyer contacts me and says they haven't received the item. So I check the transaction details on eBay and note that the buyer has already left me positive feedback about the item soon after I posted it.

Buyer now says that they left feedback in error. So I said fine, take it to eBay to decide because to me it looks like you've received the item and are now trying one on to get your money back.

Never did hear anything back from eBay .........................

You didn't hear because they didn't open a case. If they had, they would have won.

I appreciate all that, but this all happened in November last year, and the item cost £30 with the p&p, which is not an insignificant amount of money.

So my belief is that if the buyer had genuinely not received the item, and had inadvertently left positive feedback indicating that they had received the item, they would have made a claim after contacting me in mid-December.

We are now nearly 3 months after I sent the item, and 2 months after I wrote back saying that they had already left feedback, and it appears that no claim was submitted by the buyer.

Ordinarily I would just refund them and claim back from the Post Office, but the fact that they had left feedback and then tried to say that they hadn't received the item did appear to be a bit strange.

And as I said, if they'd opened a case you would be up the creek without the proverbial paddle.

I actually won a case in similar circumstances. The buyer claimed non receipt after leaving feedback, he also tried to sell it, so he was about the worst scammer going. He later complained the item was dangerous, I sent a link to a Tesco page with the same item for sale. Simple reason, he paid too much in an auction and tried to get his money back. I think his account got suspended.

They do occasionally look at feedback and the timescale if you shout loud enough.

It isn't policy and it is by no means standard.

Feedback is not part of seller protection and it would be wrong on this board to declare it were.
