bathroom door lock question

hope i can explain this well enough, currently dont have a lock on my bathroom door (live alone :j ) but letting a room so will need to fit a lock very soon. Dont really want to cut into the architrave and fit a simple slide lock, if i change the door handle/furniture on the inside of the door only for one with a turning lock on it, will i need to change the lock mechanism thats inside the door currently?
