Your advice is, at best, flawed.

They owe OP money, they seem reluctant to pay him back, so the standard course in such and event is to use the courts to get the money.

You seem convinced that ebay/paypal are above the law and that the courts would not award OP the money he can prove he's owed?

Apart from you giving me words I haven't said, I'd say the same whatever company was involved. Let's look at the details.
You tell OP to issue a court summons for £604.85, there may be a discrepancy of that amount, but at present, as I understand, that includes a balance in a Paypal account of -£369. So the actual amount claimed should be under £240. He can't very well claim for a negative balance in Paypal, that would essentially be suing Ebay for money they owe themselves.
As far as OP shows, the £184 is owing, I can't be clear on £50, it probably is too. In court OP would have to show clearly that Ebay owe him that money. Proof to a judge is a little different to laying it out on an internet forum. If Ebay did defend, OP should also know that he would have to lay out more money to go to court near Ebay's registered office. If OP wins, several months down the line, then he would be awarded costs as well as the initial amount.
So, in short, your advice is indeed flawed.

  • So you think when ebay cheats people out of money they should just take it on the chin?

Perhaps people should not have the right to take large corperations to court?

I'm perplexed why you feel ebay/paypal are beyond the law?

You never read other posts do you?

Try reading my previous post. Although anyone who ever thinks your advice might be worthwhile only needs to read this thread to see why it isn't.

Before anyone goes to court they should exhaust as many avenues as possible to get their money back. Going to court is laborious, can take several months and, most importantly, even in a cut and dry looking case, is no guarantee of winning or ever seeing any money.

Suggesting someone going to court is a simple solution ("problem solved") is flawed advice.

Arguing with you is like arguing with a hammock.

They are treating sellers like criminals and the criminals who share tips and tricks how to rob people and get free stuff at the same time as the good guys.

I have not know a month go by without someone posting ebay is finished, or is about to go bust. After 16 years of hearing that they are still with us.

Dave Brooker- we regulars know you have an axe to grind, but I think it unkind to keep posting on newbie threads that they can easily threaten court and win. It may suit your own agenda but it doesn't help the newbies at all.

If OP is owed £600odd, and ebay/paypal are refusing to pay it back, what other option does he or she have other than the courts????

Sheesh. £370 of that is a negative balance in Paypal. He'd be laughed out of court claiming for that.

If you read the ebay community board comments as well you will see that the loss is not quantified- there is an element of double counting and some confusion about what is actually owed.

So no I don't think you can go to court and ask them to find for you for an unspecified amount, that you may or may not be entitled to- without any proof it is owed.

A negative balance in paypal is not proof of anything.

That's been said by many, year in year out for years! I don't doubt they have a finite life, but I can't see it being any time soon.
