Oh, fluffnutter, I would love to tell you. Really I would.

Jackyann and Mojisola. I can't see how a letter from me would help the council get rid of him. The complaints against him have appeared in the paper, he's been reprimanded and trained and he is still a councillor. After inappropriate behaviour and inappropriate comments (sad, bad and backward!), he kept his council seat.

Good heavens! I have to say that I would still advise you to send the letter so that *you* have evidence of your handling of the situation. I also wonder if your line manager needs to be aware?
And yes, I think that people in "customer facing" jobs can easily get put in this situation.
    Good luck

Just to be clear. Of course he can't be sacked.

But he is a public servant, he works for me, u, the op, etc.

    Plain and clear language.

    'Im not interested, go away'.

Jackyann - yes, you are right. I will do this. I have to.

Guest101 - I hate being curt to people, but this is what it will take to cast his political eyes elsewhere. Clear and loud, so I also have some of my colleagues as witnesses. If I see him early enough, I can get a supervisor to come and stand behind me whilst I serve him. This, together with the letter mentioned above, will hopefully put an end to this.

If you feel more comfortable with witnesses, by all means.

But this is nothing to do with your professional capacity. It's a personal matter, and being assertive will nip this in the bud. He's looking to get re-elected not cause a scandal with a harrasment charge.

    Good luck!

I think that kindly, friendly people, who are very often employed in these jobs, are also very reluctant to fuss. We also seem to feel embarrassed on behalf of the person who should themselves feel embarrassed!
However, I think that "pests" take advantage of this, and like all bullies back down when they are given a very firm message.
Horrible that you are going through this, but best to get it over with quickly, and keep in mind that he is in the wrong.

Jackyann - yes, I am very reluctant to fuss. Everyone at work knows that I just get on with things (if I fuss, it will impact on someone else at work who can't change things) and if I do pipe up and say something, they know there is a problem. You have put into words how I have felt - "embarrassed on behalf of the person who should themselves feel embarrassed".
