Where To Re-Locate Alone?! :)

Hello,
I'm not sure if I've posted this in the correct area ofthe forum - apologies, my first post here! :j
I'm 32 single girl, lives alone, (originally from London)currently living on the outskirts of East London/Essex. I commute intoLondon to work.
I am looking to escape London life and live/work with aneasy commute & have be part of a 'community' some place. Wherever I go Ihope to meet new people.
I lived in Crawley, West Sussex for some years for workwhich I really liked (even though it doesn't have such a great reputation). Unfortunately, circumstances at the time brought me back (my family live in EastLondon/Essex).
Crawley is naturally an obvious option to re-locate to asI know the area, and I know I'm able to get work & earn enough to livealone. I also know that due to the airport there are always new people movingto the area etc. so are open to making new friends.
My family, ideally, would like me to be closer. I'm opento getting that lifestyle somewhere else if possible. It’s just a bit mind boggling notknowing where!
I have a friend in Northampton (I know it’s not closerbut I have a link there). I have spent some time there & am not really afan (no offence anyone!).
I also have a friend in Devon but that’s just so far away!
I started to look at places in Essex with a good economy.
Chelmsford has a good economy & a do-able income/rentbalance.
I've noted some not so great areas I found via Google -Melbourne, Westlands, Old Springfield. Would you say these apply?
Most frustrating thing of all is that I've looked at thedifferent districts within Chelmsford (I think they're called wards?!) & Icannot find these places. It's very hard to know where the districts start/finish.
Any constructive help & advice is welcome! :T

I think you will find it is in fact Essex that is so far away...as an adoptive Devonian.
Why choose a high cost of living place and why choose to commute to work?
If I were footloose and knowing what I know now I would choose somewhere in easy reach by foot or bike of all I needed.
Not my own ideas of course but pilfered from mrmoneymustache. Worth a read.

What sort of work
What sort of social life are you looking for.0 -
Look for your dream job and go wherever it is. It doesn't hugely matter where you live; what you do and the people you do it with are more important."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Hi Both,
Thanks for the replies.
Alchemilla, yes that's the idea. A walk or short bus/car ride into work.
Thanks I'll take a look, is that a book?
Getmoreforless, I'd be looking for secretarial/PA work. Social life, just general making of friends I guess. I'm not a big drinker, so I'd like to go to yoga class, creative writing and that kind of thing ..0 -
Fluffnutter, I agree with you there. I've chased & work hard for 'dream' careers and have been fortunate enough to have been part of them. For whatever reason I've come out of them .. So if I knew what I wanted to do, I'd most def go for it & then re-locate! Aha!0

If you're not chasing something particular jobwise and you're unencumbered by family or relationship... why not just shut your eyes and stick a pin in the map? The world's your oyster. I wish I had that much get up and go. I'm stuck in my home town because of my abundance of sit down and stay."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Colchester's supposed to be nice, if it's Essex you're after.0
