Stainless Steel Kitchen Top Suppliers

  • on another Note... Please be aware there are numerous Grades and subgrades of S/Steel..... So make sure you are specific in the grade you want as each supplier may have their own ideas.....
Grade 430 is the cheaper stainless steel, Grade 304 is more resistant to corrosion, Grade 316 would be your top end!!

Also be specific on material thickness Top end, very heavy use stainless steel is 1.5~2mm thick, the usual thickness for stainless steel tables and sinks is 1.2mm. It is possible to buy 0.9mm stainless steel but obviously this will not be as robust..

Edit..... this is from a Commercial Catering perspective....

susiedvw - to each his own. Nothing wrong with quartz but OP might not like or want it. My own kitchen is on order and its is a combination of 12mm Dekton Ceramic, 6mm stainless steel and 60mm engineered timber.

OP - check what grade and thickness of steel you are getting. 316 grade 1.6mm would be ideal.

Hi ryder72, can I just ask where you're getting your stainless steel from?

I am starting to wonder if it would be easier to go with corian... going to go to a showroom this weekend to explore other options.

I commented that as OP didnt mention it. They only mentioned granite/marble of which you will never get pure colours like you do with Quartz

However I would tend to use 308 over 316, the mechanicals are virtually the same mechanicals both austenitic chromium but slightly better to work with and can be directly welded to any 304 fitments.

S/S is expensive work, polishing and pickling any joints including tooling folds etc, takes an age, and will be an expensive custom job.

That's really interesting to know and I'm starting to find out about it now. It's so annoying as all the research I've managed to find online suggested that stainless steel was a the slightly cheaper option compared to granite!
  • I'm curious about duropal as well (have been reading up about them and it seems to get great reviews), have to speak to my partner to see what our absolute maximum budget is. It seems like the kitchen's going to cost us about £14k...

  • Looks like I'm going to go with quartz, got a price from granite zone which is a LOT cheaper than stainless steel.

    Thanks everyone for your help!
