Stainless Steel Kitchen Top Suppliers

Hello,
We're getting the kitchen done and after some thorough research we've decided that we would like to get stainless steel kitchen countertops as it's low maintenance, hygienic, durable and we like the look of it.
We've been working with a kitchen designer who's received a very high quote for the stainless steel for £4500 which is more expensive than granite! We were expecting half that cost.
Just wondering if anyone can recommend any suppliers so we can compare quotes to see if £4500 is a justifiable cost?
Our kitchen isn't huge, it's just shy of 4m by 4m.
Any help/recommendation is appreciated.
Thanks

Premade SS worktop lengths are cheap. Its when you need them templated and fitted to suit your kitchen, with seamless welded joins, integral sinks etc that it can get really expensive. We’ve had to remove your signature. Try one of the companies that make urinals.
You should be able to find contact details in most pubs or public conveniences.0 -
Got another quote through which is a grand cheaper so getting there...0

I think you are MAD..... they are not all they are cracked up to be and they are easily marked, scratched and DO NOT like chlorine based or cheap cleaning products....
I've worked in a company supplying commercial catering products including custom tables etc and yes from a Hygiene point of view they are they way to go but if this is your house and looks are also to be considered..... don't do it !!!0 -
Scratches I can handle, planning on getting the scouring pad out so it would be evenly scratched. All countertops have their pros and cons and for us stainless steel came up trumps and also goes with the theme we want for the kitchen. The other alternative is Corian maybe, which is also expensive. We're going for a moroccan contemporary look so it won't look too out of place. All the appliances will be stainless steel anyway.
Looking at the other options:
Laminate - looks too plasticky, not a big fan of it.
Wood - looks lovely but seems to be a nightmare and doesn't last very long, also high maintenance.
Granite/Marble - hate the look of it.0 -
Hi
With stainless steel worktops you absolutely get what you pay for.
There will always be someone that is prepared to do them for a little bit less, but this only means they will put a little bit less 'love' into the job, so therefore the end result you get won't be quite as good.
Personally I would always budget stainless steel worktops to be twice the cost of granite or quartz, otherwise the finish will be poor.
Good luck

wow... more expensive than granite or quartz, ok that gives me something to think about then.
I assume you've had experience with steel worktops then? If so, what's your verdict on them?0 -
Stainless steel worktops properly done will cost more than quartz or granite.
Very practical stuff. It will scratch but thats part of the character of the worktop. Otherwise very easy to look after.
The main problem with SS fabricators with no experience is that they do not understand that walls are rarely straight and at 90 degrees to each other, consistent overhangs on units have to be maintained etc. They mess up the template and the worktops look awful.
I have seen a case where a client chose to sort their own SS worktops as our quote from a reputed fabricator was a lot more. They welded the sink in at an angle, made the worktops few mm too short so that there was no overhang and generally bu88ered up the units while fitting the worktops. Result - it had to all be taken out and some units replaced at clients cost. Fabricator threw their hands up and client ended up paying for our fabricators to do the job as well as additional units (which we supplied at cost to help out). We’ve had to remove your signature. Do you hate the look of quartz? We've got Silestone and it looks incredible, so easy to keep clean, doesn't mind cleaning materials etc.... can get in many different styles/colours....0
