Does not assign IP address

Sorry, I know there are many threads, but I cannot sort out where to start!
We have a main PC, connected Wirelessly to a Belkin, cable Router, via a Netgear WG111 dongle. Works fine, as do 2 other laptops in the house.
Now trying to set up another PC, bought another Netgear dongle as above
We have installed the software and seemingly set up everything the same as the other PC.
We try to connect, and get 'Limited or no connectivity' despite the fact we are getting an all star signal. Try to repair, and get 'does not assign IP addrss'.
The Mac address is disabled on the router.
Funny other thing is that we can pick up an unsecure signal from another neighbours connection.
Help please!!!!!

Have you entered the encryption key correctly?
Why is the MAC address dissabled on the router? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Good point re encryption. We will have a look.
May have used the wrong phrase re Mac....we do not have to put in the Macs of any PCs connecting, there is an option to switch this on or off.O would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.

if you are using xp or vista, try a textual wpa key, which is more secure than wep.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I know it breaks the rules, but try with no key, then a simple key. I found that when I tried a complicated key I was getting a similar problem. I found that using this page https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm
63 random alpha-numeric characters worked, but 63 random printable ASCII characters didn't

Same problem as portchieboy but I'm not very technically adept so don't quite understand the replies. Only started to happen last couple of days on 1 desktop (other 2 are fine and all 3 were fine for months and all 3 using Netgear WG111). Despite trying repair this one PC still doesn't connect but have also noticed that there's no IP address - repair used to fix this. Any advice gratefully received.0

ts_aly2000: no I'm on XP and I haven't changed/upgraded any software or hardware.0

crox, the grc generator sometimes puts quotation marks in, which the router doesn't like, if you take them out/replace them or regenerate a quoteless key, it works.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Sorry, what I meant to say was that I'm running on XP. As I said, 2 PCs are connecting ok it's just the 3rd one which I'm having same problem as post #1. Any simple instructions for a virgin techie?0

Is the router encrypted?
If so, do as ts suggested, click on the wireless network, and re-enter the encryption keyEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
