OP did not state what duration they would be staying over there, I know some people stay over there for 3 months or more with friends or family. after 90 days they would required a IDP, this cant be applied for after getting there it has to be applied for 3 months prior to goingGood wind-up!

if you break down on a toll road or motorway you cant call your own recovery via insurance you have to call a French highways government department and pay a recovery fee. use you own for other road types.
if your drivng through or in belguim you need an IDP http://www.rac.co.uk/travel/driving-abroad/international-driving-permit
amoung other things

RAC had it all in one place it took less than 5 mins to find these. google is your friend.
Youll need:
Headlamps converted.
Fire extinguisher.
GB stickers if no GB plates fitted.
Red Warning triangle.
High Viz vest or jacket (in emergencies).
First Aid Kit.
if going into places affected by snow reguarly in winter, its handy to have some kind of snow chain or snow sock incase you get stuck.
Some Netherland province laws require that during the months of winter winter tyres are fitted to your vehicle trams always have right of way no matter what even if you think you should have right of way. and DONT SOUND YOUR HORN unless in emergency its a nice little earner for the police out there with UK drivers, flash lights instead and at night. and you cant cross solid white lines even to turn into a side junction you should follow the road for somewhere to turn and double back.
carry multiple ID's on you not just passport and license.
Take V5C MOT and insurance docs and carry them at all times in the car.
Carry bottles of water and antifreeze mix's.
and screenwash.

you are correct. I have a friend who lives in sluis and one that lives in fijnaat, local laws require you have an IDP to produce with a uk license (mainly because they speak little English) but also if you brake down and need a rental car they wont issue one without an IDP even if you have UK/EU compliant license.Spicy_McHaggis wrote: »Isn't Holland in the EU?
Vehicles from the UK may be imported into Belgium for up to 6 months in any period of 12 months. When driving in Belgium the following documents should be carried:- Full, valid driving licence* (with paper counterpart)
- International Driving Permit (1926, 1949, 1968) (Available from http://www.rac.co.uk/travel/driving-abroad/international-driving-permit)
- Proof of insurance (third party or above)
- Proof of ID (Passport)
- Proof of ownership (V5C Certificate
Especially if you only have a paper license!.0 -

UK driving licence holders don't need an IDP in Belgium.0 -
Really have to ask.Spicy_McHaggis wrote: »Such as and why?
Incase you lose you license while out there or your pass port or both, its handy to have another type of ID on you that you keep separate from the rest it makes things easier on yourself if you didn't.0 -
