N,S,E,W facing garden

Our garden is SSE and we don't get evening sun - we lose it about 4-5pm behind the house next door to ours. We get it all day until then, but if evening sun is important to you then you want west-facing.
If I had free choice I might be tempted to go west-facing as we work full-time and in the summer it'd be nice to come home and be able to sit in a sunny garden of an evening. But our garden is glorious at weekends so can't complain.

We have an ESE facing garden and lose the sun over the house mid-afternoon. I quite like losing the sun when we do, it's still nice and warm but you're not in direct sunlight.0

A garden that's ssw is best of both worlds sunnywise. All day and into the evening until it goes down.0

I have a south west garden, great you would think.
Oh no a@se neighbours have grown huge conifers higher than my house along the bottom of my garden, other neighbour has a massive holly tree that is really dense so stops the morning soun as well, so most of my lawn is in the shade.
I would look at what's around and close even if it is south facing.0 -
I tried to attach the an as a link but as I am a new user I am not allowed

The west side has no other building immediately to the side of it I sm on a corner. There is no trees although they are putting a decorative wall to the west side for privacy as it will be a road into the estate.
So if I sm looking out the front of the house and I sm looking at North there should be some sunshine?
Remove the http:// part of the link, you should then be able to enter it."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Good idea to check for environmental impact from neighbouring trees etc, wherever you move to. Not much info for OP on plans I imagine but likely to be more sparse than dense? I wouldn't know.0

Tillycat, there is legislation to help you, called High Hedges legislation: https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=4080 -
My partner and I have purchase a new build with a NE facing garden. We've been told not to expect much sunlight at all - only a couple of hours in the morning.0

We have a NE facing garden and were surprised that we actually get good sun in the evening. That's because our drive is to the left of the house (so sort of SW) and the sun comes down there in the afternoon/ evening so isn't blocked by the house and most of the left our garden keeps the sun until quite late. Bizarrely all our neighbours who have detached houses have their drives on the right so we are the only ones on our little row of houses who have this.0

Hi Penguingirl - Our house is a new build and we don't have any house or garage next to our house (Garage is at the front by the side) or any house behind us so fingers crossed we could get some sun just like yourself :-)0
