    It would help if you told us which way the garden faced (it's always handy to take a compass to viewings, the one EA's use seem to have needles stuck on south). However, sun can be blocked out by fences/buildings. The best thing you can do is ask to visit the house at a certain time of day and find out.

    Generally though;

    East = morning sun
    South = sun most of day
    West = afternoon/evening sun
    North = why is my lawn 90% moss?

    Use googlemap or Bing Map.

    That will

    a) show which way the garden faces and also
    b) give an indication of sun in the garden at whatever time the satallite picture was shot.
    c) you can usually work out the time of day from shadows, and estimate sun at other times of day.
  • If you stand outside point the hour hand at the sun. (In the northern hemisphere) South will be halfway between the hour hand and 12 on your watch.

  • It's not built yet , I have a drawing of the site plan and there's a compass drawing on it but I just can understand it, what I can make out is the front door looks towards north/west?

    Thanks for your help!

    If the front's NW, then the back's sunny. Of course there's more to it than that - e.g. other buildings, how close the fence is, how high the roof is, what's next door, trees, etc.
  • I tried to attach the an as a link but as I am a new user I am not allowed :/

    The west side has no other building immediately to the side of it I sm on a corner. There is no trees although they are putting a decorative wall to the west side for privacy as it will be a road into the estate.

    So if I sm looking out the front of the house and I sm looking at North there should be some sunshine?

    More north than west

    So the backdoor and garden face SSE?

    Sun will come up on the left (as you look out of the back door). around midday it will be straight ahed, flooding the garden with sun (unless there's tall buildings/trees at the end of the garden), and sun will go down to the right.

    Yes looking out the back door you are looking s/se
    So it should get sunshine most of the day and about dinner time 4pm-6ish?
  • This might help you visualise it:
