I will do lol0 -
If the person, or other members of staff, who served you on Friday remembers you then that would be proof of purchase (effectively)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I've taken a few things back to argos without receipts - take all the packaging back with the phone, and tell them the day (and maybe approx time) you purchased it. Should be fine. Good luck.

Ok thanks for the help I'm going to return it tomorrow, i definitely don't want a repair though. What happened to the customer always being right?
You may have no choice in the matter, they are under no obligation to replace it (though they may do), even assuming that you can prove the purchase without a receipt.
The customer is not always right, especially if they can't prove that they are a customer. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Firstly, Argos as the retailer is responsible if the phone is not working correctly, not the manufacturer. You need to return it to them asap.
As for your missing receipt; if you still have the box it came in, Argos have their own way of marking the boxes of everything they supply so they will know instantly that they supplied the phone. Without your receipt, they will not give you a refund, but they will give you a replacement.
I didn't say that Argos weren't responsible-under SOGA they clearly are. But if the OP cannot prove purchase, this might be a way around the issue, as the manufacturer would repair under warranty, since they would know the date of manufacture from the IMEI or serial number. If it goes for repair then it will be returned to the manufacturer or their authorised repair agent anyway-it's not going to be fixed at Argos. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Argos will check on their system to see if they have a repair option for that item, if not they will ask if you want a replacement or refund, if you chose refund and have no PoP this will be in an Argos Gift Card0
