Afternoon everyone!
Please bear with me as i dint know much about cars but need advice. Last month i took my car (Kia Picanto) to National for 2 new tyres. Was told wheel allignment needed doing, exhaust was very rusty & brakes looks 80% worn. Advised i had about 2000 miles to go before pads & discs needed replacing.
Anyway today i have taken it to my local garage for MOT. It passed! No advisories! No mention of the exhaust or that the brakes where looking worn! I was told they test the brakes on a rolling road but do they visually test too? Also where would be best to get a brake test done? Would it be best to just take it back to my local garage in a couple of months time and pay for a test? National have really made me anxious and i was honestly expecting advisories today on my MOT. But as i havent had any i've no idea where i stand!

Mot tests your brakes, both visually and for efficiency.
It passed, and they weren't looking for work.
Exhaust would only be surface rust most likely, and not about to snap.
Do you not get it serviced?0 -
I bought it from new, so not quite reached its service yet. 40k miles Kia recommends, i'm currently around 35k so its something i will be looking to do soon. So basically National are trying to get more money out of me. Grr!0

I'd check your service intervals again. Are you sure Kia have said 40k miles for your first service? Even so, their recommendations would be time or mileage based. Given that your car went in for it's MOT, I presume it's 3 years old. Most variable service plans recommend a service after 2 years notwithstanding the mileage.0

Just mileage then and no time period, given its three years old.0 -

Kia show most of their vehicles need a service every 12 months or 12,000 miles.0 -
40k service interval? Service interval is 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is the soonest.. 2004 - 2011 models. 10k not 12k miles
If the pads are above the manufacturers limit it will pass. 10 miles down the road they may be less than the limit and will fail if you take it back.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Fair do's everyone. I went on my local kia garage website and the first service option was 4 years or 40k miles. Currently on year 5 but not hit the 40k so yes must admit its probably due a service0

Why are you taking it to a main dealer?
You've lost any warranty you think you've got.0
