Windows not responding on Start Up? (inc HijackThis log)

The laptop will not open windows completely allowing me to do anything.

Yesterday I had a problem after an AVG update and I did a system restore which worked fine. Today the start up page loads then I get the a box stating windows is not resopnding.

I am now in safe mode.

Have you tried uninstalling AVG from safemode then rebooting ?

You might want to give malwarebytes a shot from safe mode just to see if there are any PUP (potentially unwanted programs) giving you a problem with your AVG update. PUPs are adware, spyware that kind of stuff.

Looks like you have old versions of adobe reader (v10) and java (v7)

A good tool is secunia PSI which will scan all your software and look for vulnerable outdated versions.

I've managed to get into normal windows and I'm now uninstalling AVG.
I will rerun Malawarebytes.

Google chrome stopped working so I've reinstalled that.

You are running two security suites (Comodo and AVG) and that's not a good idea as they will probably interfere with each other and is possibly the cause of your problem.

It should be avg security with comodo firewall. I will remove comodo and start my security again.

Just updating all the windows updates removed by restore.

Right I have removed comodo - just have the firewall. Reinstalled and updated AVG.

I now cannot uninstall a corrupt malwarebytes so I can reinstall and run.

In remove programs it is missing a file so cannot be removed - says reinstall to correct. I cannot reinstall as an existing program is still there.

How else can I manually remove the program?
