German postal days

A bit of an obscure thread but I'm intrigued.
I've been selling stuff on German Amazon and usually leave weekend items to go out on Monday. I've noticed that Germany has Sunday as a dispatch day. I assume from that that Sunday is a collection day in Germany, is that the case?
It doesn't make much difference to me but it's likely I've had a few late dispatch marks on my account until I worked this out.

In my area, anything posted on a Saturday morning goes to the local main post office only. It then sits there until late morning Monday until the lorry arrives to take it to the area depot.
Essentially, I don't bother rushing to the post office on Saturday if I can go by Monday midday. Not entirely sure why you would be getting any late delivery defects though.Saving money right, left and centre0 -

No and I'd answered as though you were posting from the UK to Germany, my mistake if you are posting from Germany.
What I meant was that I could understand why you don't bother posting from the UK on a Saturday because there's no advantage other than you marking as dispatched on your Amazon account .
Pretty sure the USA postal system are now moving post on a Sunday too.Saving money right, left and centre0 -
I am posting from the UK. The German Amazon account requires your despatch days to be in line with German ones. Sunday appears to be a despatch day, so if I get an order in late on Friday, I need to mark it as sent on Sunday, if I leave it until Monday it is a late despatch. No and I'd answered as though you were posting from the UK to Germany, my mistake if you are posting from Germany.

As for Saturday post, if you post before noon, first class should (mostly) be delivered on Monday. I tend to find that if you drop it at a sorting office before noon it is often delivered Monday. For overseas post I can't just drop off so I leave them until Monday..0 -

I would be interested to hear if the German postal service has a Sunday sorting, ie uses it as any other day. We are always being told that our postal service is the best in Europe, and I know it is certainly better than Spain.
As for UK post, my local PO is open until 12 and has a collection at 11.45 on a Saturday, and my mail centre, that I use , works until around 2pm but only takes 'Saturday' post until about 1pm, everything else is treated as Mondays post.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The sorting office I use has a noon cut off but I have dropped off much later that arrived on a Monday. I've noticed a couple of days difference between using a sorting office and just dropping at a post box. Second class sent at a sorting office is as good, if not better, than first class in a post box.

I assume you mean a mail centre. You essentially cut out the whole collection process and inject your item directly into the mail stream.
so items are directly sorted into the next stage of the pipeline.0 -
Germans aren't allowed to wash their windows or cars on Sundays, or hang out their washing so I very much doubt they have delivery or collection then. They still pay church tax in their wages, Sunday is precious.0

Before they changed the layout of my mail centre I could actually see the cages, they would take my sack of things and tip it directly into a sorting cage. Then when full the cages were rolled away to some other unseen area. Now they have moved some of the services the cages are hidden behind a door and screen, so they disappear with my full bag and just bring it back empty.
The thing that confuses a lot of people is that they are not a post office, so although they will stamp items for people, they have no label printer and cannot do anything non UK. Nor can they do things like car tax or suchlike. That causes a lot of problems, people take their things in and get given a pile of stamps, often they will argue that they want proper postage labels and when told no say things like 'what sort of post office are you !' To which the response is 'we are not any sort of post office, we are Royal Mail'. At which point toys are often thrown out of the pram by irate customers.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
