    - been quoted £100 to mend iPad screen, is that about right?

    No!

I would suggest googling "Replace iPad screen youtube". You'll get lots of videos on how to do it yourself at a fraction of the price.

    Or

Take it back to where you bought it and ask for a replacement under the Sale of Goods Act items must last a reasonable time. If the seller refuses take the issue to your credit card company if you bought it this way. They have a responsibility too.

    Morning DFW-Jedis,

Well, life goes on, as does the almost everlasting quest for solvency and sanity. Today's my day off but I'm going to mainly spend it at my laptop doing life admin.

    The List

:starmod: Check online banking and reconcile monies

    :starmod: Do i-Say surveys.

:starmod: Turn off electric alarm clock at the wall til tonight.

:starmod: Read news online instead of buying a paper.

    :starmod:
Listen to free BBC Radio podcasts downloaded on works Wifi. (Free canteen WiFi, best job perk. :D)

:starmod: Refill my weekly pill box; thereby avoiding the cost of getting ill because I've forgotten a life-prolonging pill.

:starmod: Repaired USB key by making new "feet" for it.

:starmod: Installed free Firefox dictionary to correct spelling while typing online.

:starmod: Measure other half for a new t-shirt for her birthday. Don't want to buy the wrong size.

:starmod: Change a password on something. Worried about fraud.

:starmod: Share some music with my OH instead of buying new.

:starmod: Parcel up camera bag I sold on eBay. Use Parcel2go.com to compare delivery costs to make the maximum profit. Money is going to my OH's birthday fund. I've got £24 out of the £100 saved so far, all from selling de-clutterings.

:starmod: Set printer up to print by default in monochrome not colour.

:starmod: Source cheap printer cartridge from RefreshCartridges.co.uk. Their delivery is free and fast.

:starmod: Buy one track from an album not the whole album.

:starmod: Cancel trial Amazon Prime membership before DD kicks in.

:starmod: Make car insurance decisions. Existing insurer was £200 last year. Wants £330 this year! Got a quote elsewhere for £140.

    :starmod: Do Royal Mail Surveys.

:starmod: Plan the next three days off carefully to have the maximum fun for the minimum amount of money.

:starmod: List a DVD boxed set on eBay. Similar items are selling for £20 just now. This could go towards OH's birthday fund.
Sold in 20 mins. Birthday fund is now at £41. :D

Well that's me for today. Good luck on your quests, Jedis.

  • Morning all! I've had a little time away from the interweb for various reasons, been lurking but not posting via my smart phone. Think of you every time my wm goes on overnight Foxgloves (or more accurately, on the very very occasional times that I think its justified in using it during the daytime!).
Off to my folks for the day today, our first visit to them since xmas because of bugs etc. Luckily they are very practical and won't mind if we turn up with ironing (me) and homework (DD) to do, as the weekend has been very busy!
    • So, lunch at folks, dinner at my outlaws, meal planning is pretty simple for today (feeling blessed!).
    • We are totally out of bread but have things for pancakes if DD doesn't want cereal today. Her last morning with me before a week at her dads.
    • Away with work at a nice hotel midweek, and with friends nearby the night afterwards, so few meals at home required. Must triage fridge as some of the veg won't lasy, possibly soup and cauliflower cheese to be made for next weekends grub.
    • Intend to blitz house today in case any paying guests want to come whilst I'm away this week. Be gutting to have to say no as house is free, but the supply of guests has dried up a little. Have reduced prices online slightly as feeling that cash through is better than holding out for more money per night.
    • Holiday planning with DD. Not v moneysaving, but the flights were her xmas present (only had underwear, choc orange and one book as well) and we are going for a long weekend, maybe 3 nights. Just need to book - will be using house exchange scheme so accommodation costs v limited and self catering. Likely to go at Easter so thought about asking my folks for museum pass for for DD instead of the usual spending money they give in lieu of easter eggs (ex and his wife both have parents who have split up - on their side, there are 4 sets of grandparents all spoiling her, so choc mountain is bonkers). There are two museums/attractions that she really wants to do. Beyond that, she said she is happy walking around people watching and soaking atmosphere up. I was hoping to be DF at the point we did this but logistically it looks like I might be a month away  I am reassuring myself that if my debt payments are on track, and the trip isn't adding to them, I should lighten up. It has been a long 4 years after all!
    • Ebay listings ending tonight. Watchers on both items. Have sorted a few more things which I plan to prepare to list this am, then make listings go live this evening.
    • Returning borrowed tools to my parents, hoping to pick up their carpet cleaner. If house stays empty this week, might as well do the carpets!
    • Go into work to do expenses claim (not pleased about unnecessary journey, but it would be great to get this back in this next payment run, and I will miss it otherwise).
    • Have joined toluna after hearing foxgloves success there. Some surveys today would be good. The payouts feel a long way off but perhaps that will build with more activity?
    • Freepostcode lottery - need to save login on my phone, so I can check without laptop!
Have a good debtbusting day folks x

I've had my iPad for over a year now and it was a Christmas present so can't take it back. You can buy screens for less than £20, however you need some suction cup things and a heat gun to replace screen. Too complicated! I can still use my iPad fine and the cracks are lovable but it would off been nice to get fixed. £100 though just isn't worth it. I'll just have to keep a hear out for anyone who can do it for cheaper.

Good morning all, a lovley misty and frosty day (heating on)

Had a great time at house warming party last night and it was very cheap :-D most social occasions will be in houses from now on. Few things happening through out the year so I may need to start a little stash.

It's party day for ds1. Currently at her dads, but picking me up at 11.30 to go the party. He has brought the two girls new outfits today which is a bonus for me :-D hopefully, it will be suitable for ds1 to wear to a party Monday night.

No list today, just completing list from yesterday. Have a good day everyone xx

  • Good morning, Well I did get an early night and didn't get up until 9.30 this morning. I am still feeling under the weather so I am going to have a lazy day and hopefully feel better for tomorrow, as next week is looking very busy.

    My list for today:
    • Feed animals and check for eggs
    • Check superpoints and swagbucks
    • Check freepostcodelottery
    • Print paperwork for MSing assignment tomorrow
    • Write article for client
    • All meals from stores
    • Get rid of 100 emails
    • Spend some time with the little ones
    • Do some course work
    • Make sure everything is in the diary for next week
    • Make a list of things that need to be done to move the business forward
    • Submit s&s information
    • Sort clothes and bags for tomorrow
I think that is everything that I need to achieve today, Hope everyone has a good Sunday x

Often the new screen will come with the cups but if not the same sellers usually sell a little tool kit which comes with everything you need for a pound or two. Heat guns can be picked up for around £5 but with patience you could also use a hair dryer.

I replaced the screen and a few other bits on my sister's old iPhone 3 and although fiddly because everything was so small, it saved me a fortune and the end result was a non-working phone turned working phone that I had for a year-18 months.

I took my mum out to the local Harvester last night. I managed to get a £5 off voucher by filling in a survey so I asked for two separate bills and used that on mine (the smaller order) and then used a 33% off voucher on my mum's.

We went on a reccy to Aldi yesterday and I made myself stay longer than previous trips and get over the sheer number of breakfast cereals and biscuits and look for stuff we actually eat and I concede that it is way cheaper than Mr T (if still depressing.) were hoping to how today to do an actual shop.

The house we liked is now under offer. I'm disappointed but not as much as I thought I'd be because now I won't be tempted to reduce mine so quickly. There is nothing else at the moment in the area we want to move to but I have identified another area where I could possibly get rid of the mortgage altogether.

    The choices are:
Ideal place... 2 stops down the line from us on a fast train to London in the town where all my sons friends are so he could walk to and from their houses. Town centre with lots of Saturday job options etc. houses are roughly 50k cheaper than where we live now so can reduce my mortgage, after moving costs, by about 35k. I will still need to work 3 weeks out of 4 (work not guaranteed after November)

Possible new area... We'd be the same distance from ideal area as we are now but in another direction (North of the river) and on a slow train into London. DS will have to drive to see his friends as no train across the river! It would add 20 minutes onto my train journey into work (when I have work but would need to work less) BUT houses are about 100k cheaper than here so, even after moving costs I could be mortgage free.
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

    December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.10
