I'm looking forward to the wider NFC spread eg apple pay, cards are outdated.

I also look forward to being able to pay with Apply Pay (why didn't they call it iPay...) but I can't see cards going away anytime soon. Some places don't even have mobile card readers yet, some people won't be allowed contactless payments, and some people need to die before they give up their cards (or cheques).

I did notice they let you use them in the pubs now which is sure the cause some problems when everyone is drunk.

I spoke to someone just the other week who had this very problem!

I'm afraid I'm a 'tin hat' (whatever that is) who doesn't use this (I rarely write cheques though!) as it worries me about what would happen if I lost the card and didn't notice for a few hours and someone spent lots of little sums on the card.

Do you have to opt in or opt out of this, does anyone know?

Its due to come here early this year. It already works here though if you have a US debit or credit card. I've used it with one of my US credit cards and it works like a treat.

I take it this was only on a transaction up to £20?

What we might see is the rise of card consolidators. In the US Coin, Swyp, Plastc, Wocket, Stratos are all vying.

In terms of theft, there are limits on how many contactless transactions are allowed to be made before a pin is asked for. I've never been hit by it, so maybe 5+ per day. Id be far more concerned about someone walking into the Apple Store and buying a new Mac, or buying something on Amazon, than I would someone buying his lunch with my stolen card. I also only ever use it with a credit card.

Some terminals are now active for mobile payments amounts above £20. I successfully used at BP for £40.

    Re mobile payments :
If you have multiple accounts and cards , can you decide with which card to make a payment from the phone?

Although earlier I said that I have never used contactless ,im certainly not anti , it would be just highly unusual for me to spend such small amounts of money. When I do , would just put my hand in my pocket for cash.

Yes. See this video for how it works with Apple Pay: http://youtu.be/4I9MbIrlEUw

Yes, and it is a heck of a lot easier than fumbling for the right card in your wallet/purse.

I should say it'll be pretty soon. When I used to try and add my UK Amex it would say that the issuer was not supported, now it just gives an error along the lines of call up Amex to verify the card for security before adding the card.
