Morning Ziggy, Jojo, and everyone else who comes along later :hello:

    For me today:
Batch cooking that I didn't get to yesterday; I need to make soup, a chilli, a cake and a quiche Managed the chilli (though it is actually a bolognese) and the soup is in hand, but not the other things as yet
Go to sales unit and tidy round Done, nothing much sold :(
Investigate doing another batch of books for Amazon trade-in Done another batch, more than £28 if they accept all of them :D
Clean some silver plated and copper items for sales unit (horrible dirty job :() Unsurprisingly this got put off, as not needed urgently in the unit

That should keep me busy today!

Ooh something weird happening with the site, says my post is too short, see if adding this does it

Well, instead of letting me edit as usual, it has made an entire new post for some reason.

Hope all the poorlies are feeling better :(

That programme sounds a waste of time - why on earth don't they choose normal people? Or perhaps us MSE- ers are not normal?? Seriously though, there are lots of people relying on a low income so why on earth aren't they helping them out rather than doing some predictable 'reality' type programme? I haven't watched it tbh, as I assumed it would be a waste of time :( Why don't they give Jack Monroe or someone like that a series, which would be of far more use to people who need a bit of help

And I'm never sure what is freezeable!

I go by the rule that if I've ever seen it frozen in a supermarket then it's freezable!

I watched that programme again this week and found it a bit of a waste of time, surely they could have shaved more off of that enormous bill than they did??! And since when does ready made pastry count as home cooking??! And did they bake the foccacia or just put some chopped up tomatoes on the top?

It's interesting that they say (can't remember where I heard this btw, could have been the programme, could have been on here!) that, after your mortgage, your food shopping is your next biggest bill but where does that leave those of us that have *already* cut back on the shopping? I'd like to see them feature someone that's already savvy and show them how to save even more, any idiot could say 'stop buying branded goods and you'll save a packet'
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

  • Maria, sorry you've come down with the dreaded lurgy. Plenty of rest and fluids. There seems to be so many bugs and viruses going round at present.

DS1 made a lovely vegetable curry, was glad of an evening off cooking. He's cooking again tomorrow, could get used to this!

    Maria - please don't die!

Frugal friends I have a question - what do you use to clean your oven? Is there a frugal "My grandma used to use..." way rather than splash out the cash on products?

Start-ups, hot water, light scouring pad.

  • Re oven cleaning: my gran used to spray the oven with water, sprinkle in baking soda, leave it for a few hours then wipe it all out with a bit of elbow grease where necessary!
