  • The service is at 10.20 which for me now retired is veeerrrry early!
Has any traffic bottlenecks died down by then?
  • Hello - I live locally and the Noke is about a 5 minute drive from the crematorium and generally the local traffic would have died down by 10.20.

Travel at ten should be fine. And I could walk from the hotel to the crematorium in not much more than 5 minutes.

You did say an early service, passed at 7 and back at 9 and then it was midweek just crawling along.

Emma ?? ask your grandchildren ......think Harry Potter.
Hospital , parking dire, but the service last wed was wonderful.

Noke, daughters both had part time jobs there a few years ago , no horror stories.

Sadly have to attend here in a weeks time but its very early service time.
Anyone recommend somewhere near to stay the night before, where dinner and brekky will be available near by?
    Thanks.:o

Strange place to find a thread headed West Herts Crematorium under the forum titled "UKholidays, Days out, Entertainment! Sill gave me a laugh on this dull afternoon.

Good luck with your accommodation search OP.

    That really is impressive.

It's over two miles from the Noke Hotel to West Herts Crem, so even walking it in ten minutes is worthy of an olympic gold medal. :D

I thought you said it was early!

My Partner's late Father's 'service' was conducted at about that time - we left Cardiff at about 5.45 am. Arrived in Borehamwood a little later than 'normal' because of traffic on the M25 & M4 from Slough.

Did something similar for a 'late' Aunt up in Moreton the Wirral, some years earlier.

    Also retired - today, yippee.

  • It is a 2 mile walk, and about 45 minutes to do... If you stayed at the Premier inn Garston it's only a 19 min walk (0.9 miles), you've got TGI fridays next door and Garston parade.

To be honest, after 9ish I wouldn't worry about about traffic.

BTW - might be worth looking at this hotel: http://www.deverevenues.co.uk/en/venues/hunton-park/

It's not somewhere I've thought about before, but it looks quite impressive for the money (£59-79 per night) and it's only 3.5 miles away
  • Thank you all for the fascinating replies!
There certainly has been a lot of info given.
I had a fancy for the premier Inn at Kings Langley but although they come up as a rating of 8.4 ie very good indeed, if you look at Trip Advisor, the more recent postings/ratings are poor ranging from poor staff to rooms being cold so that option is off the list!
Looking now at the place at Apsley which is only about 4 miles away but to be honest am now nervous as I sleep very badly and want to be sure of warmth/quiet/courtesy etc etc.
It will be stressful enough an occasion without feeling cream crackered through poor nights sleep!
Thank you again for all your help.:)
  • Just thought you might like to know I finally settled on The De Vere Hotel at Hunton Bridge as they were offering a good deal.
The hotel is fine and as an added plus has a swimming pool but the most remarkable factor turned out to be the staff!
Cannot remember getting such excellent customer service in a hotel in a very long time. All the staff I came into contact with from the front desk, the restaurant and housekeeping were exemplary.
Not sure how they've done it but it made a huge difference to me that nothing was too much trouble and the journey to the Crematorium took about 10 mins via some back roads so trouble free.
I would revisit this hotel for sure - a nice calm place to be.
Thanks to everyone for their input, much appreciated. :T
