Moving house - Rhoose and Llanharan or stay in Cardiff??
I wasn't sure whether to put this in the house moving or local area, but I thought I would start here.
Me and OH live in his 2bed house in Thornhill which is nice enough but a fair trek from facilities. We have decided to move to a bigger place (3bed) and buy between us but most of the areas we like in Cardiff are beyond our price range(£200K max).
We are considering moving outside Cardiff to get more from our money and quite like the look of Rhoose and Llanharan. We want a railway station and some pubs to walk to lol!
Anyone who lives in these places - any advice, areas to avoid etc etc.
many thanks

I live in Barry so I can comment on Rhoose to some degree. There are 2 pubs in the village - one at the top and one at the bottom, you have the facility at the caravan park and also the highwayman a bit further out of the village.
If you were thinking of moving to Rhoose Point though you'd have a fair old walk to the nearest pub at the top of the village - they haven't catered for extra shops etc in the new estate. Personally I wouldn't move down there I'd move to the old village itself if that's what you decide on.
Not sure of the trains. I know they've re-opened the line to Rhoose but I don't think they are very regular?????
My friend has lived there all her life and thinks it's fine - personally I don't like it - the people are very cliquey and there is nowhere near enough life there for me - not being able to walk to a shop or pub easily puts me off.
I don't know Llanharan at all so can't comment.
P.S If you were thinking of moving down this way I can recommend certain areas of Barry0 -
Hi,
I had a friend who lived in Rhoose. The new estate is a bit expensive and if you live at the top end, the trains can be noisy plus the airport is so near the planes can also be noisy but all of this you can get used to.
Llanharan, lived here most of my life. The film studio (if they ever build it) is planned for the area with an exit off the Motorway so no extra traffic, house prices are ok, set to rise with all the plans for Llanilid site.
The estate I live on has 3 bed houses for sale at around £175k to £185k. These are great as you can extend over the garage to create another bedroom, this is what we are in the process of doing. Or for around £200k you could buy a 4 bed house!
Nice quiet estates with all amenities in a short walking distance of either end of the village, 3 nice pubs, fab Take Away on Bridgend rd and if you have children, choice of 3 schools, Dolau, Llanharan Primary and Llansannor(Llanharry) that has a bus service.
Train station is set to open in September and would cost about £3.40 to get to Cardiff.
New housing estate being built as we speak, Llanmoor homes.
If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask
Good luck with your decision

Barry has 4 train stations - Cadoxton, Barry Dockm Barry & Barry Island along with an excellent bus service to Cardiff. Just 8 miles to the M4 and an average of 4 miles to the airport so all transport links are close at hand.
Fabulous parks - Porthkerry Park runs down to the sea. Nice beaches, leisure centre, small cinema and two shopping areas (Holton Road & High Street).
Supermarkets include Morrisons, Tescos and Waitrose. We have a Focus, a Wilkinsons and an Argos too.
Why not have a drive around over the weekend and see what you think. Lots of new houses - try Pencoedtre for example (15 minutes to Rail station on foot) or there is Cwm Talwg or Highlight Park, or there are lovely areas near to Porthkerry Park and Romilly Park.
Roads to avoid - Elizabeth Avenue, Winston Road, High Street, York Place, Main Street, Vere Street, Treharne Road and the roads running off them - generally they tend to be either housing association or house in multiple occupation - lots of youngster who are single and not as consdirate as they might be!The best way to escape a problem is to solve it :j0 -

llanharan, haven't had a drive round yet ( this weekend!) but have seen nice houses in Powell Road and Authors Place. My friend lives on the new estate by the new station and they are all up in arms as they weren't told the proximity of the new station and want some money back. Wouldn't bother me though. I have heard only good things about Llanharan I must admitYou're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
I have to be honest, I wouldn't live on the new estate as it's right beside the railway track, this is a busy, busy line. It also has a rugby club/pitch the other side of it, so much noise you'd have to be deaf to live there I think.
Have a look at my estate, Parc Bryn Derwen, I have lived here for 8 years. Most of the people living here have all been here a long time. No chance of flooding as it's on a side of a hill and away from the track. There is a nice Three storey house for sale on the main Rd running through the village, not sure how much though.
Happy House hunting.

I have really been impressed for the amount of house you get for your money in Llanharan compared to Cardiff. I almost can't warrant paying Cardiff prices now, I will get sooo little house for my money it's untrue. Quite excited about going at the weekend and having a nice drive around. Parc Bryn Derwen is on my list!! (looks a bit hilly tho??)You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0

my stepdad livwes in Rhoose he loves it and I love it when I visit, its good cos you have the airport on your doorstep and now they have reopened the railway station there, think you got the best of both worlds near to Cardiff but not in the city if you like somewhere a bit quieter....Id like to move there anyway if I could afford it but not to the new houses at Rhoose Point they have no view as down behind a big cliff0
