Hi All, I know we all seem to get driven crazy with unsolicited calls, but over the past few weeks I seem to be getting more and more.
today alone I have had 4 with a private number, 3 with a Halifax number, 3 with a Birmingham number, and 2 with numbers starting with 0003. Is there anyway I can get these stopped or blocked. My tariff is with Tesco mobile monthly.

    Depends why they are coming.

It could be someone has given out their mobile number wrongly and you get the calls, say transposing a digit, nothing you can do there.

It could be it a number new to you and these are calls to the old number,

Or it could be telemarketers where you can register with the TPS but that only works for UK companies the 003 is probably international and not covered by the TPS..

What type of phone do you have?

Most smartphones have a call blocking feature and android has some great call blockers free. If I get a spam call it goes right on the blocked list. If I miss a call from a number I don't know I google it. If it's spam, again it goes right on the blocked list.

I'm also with tesco and noticed a big increase in spam calls when I joined.

I am with Tesco and get zero spam on my mobile. I am careful who I share my mobile number with.

I have a work phone that I use for fairly restricted calls. It gets regular calls for PPI and other such rubbish.
I guess company's ring them at random? I mean any 10 digit number beginning 07 is likely to be a mobile in the UK

But who had that number before you, and did they register it anywhere that's since been sold on..?

Not really, its no as simple as saying who you tell, as N9EAV says its could be a case of starting with 0700000000 and working up on an autodialer, or If some one else has a similar number (say two digits are different) and they transpose the digits when giving their number out then nothing you do will stop their contacts calling you thinking its their contacts number.

Randoms wrong but they will have a number from somewhere, or a set of ranges, and while they are not supposed to do this PAYG sim cards and a computer make it easy to text spam loads of people. Add in an unlimited Skpye deal and they can call too.
They get caught and the number closed quickly, but by that time thousands have had the spam call / text..
  • I tend to get 3 or 4 a week and I'm on o2.
I tend to play along or play games with them and they never seem to call back.

I either keep on saying Hello,

speak in French, repeat what they say or when its a call saying I've had a car crash recently I say either yes it was in Syria or you are mistaken it was my aeroplane I crashed.

I keep getting the same PPI recorded message. They must have sussed that i have blocked their numbers so not turned to withheld. So i have blocked those also.

I've had the same number since I took out my first ever phone contract 15 years ago.

I'm not much bothered by the spam calls personally. They just go on the blocked list and I'm not bothered by them again.

No worries, When I got my now current number for the first 6 months I'd get the occasional call about washing machine repairs as I guess whoever had it before did them.
They long since ceased, but its just the point there are almost no "new" numbers left all mobile numbers are ones that have been re-cycled..
