BT Broadband keeps dropping

HI
Had BT Broadband for a couple of years now. In the first year it was problem free but for last few months the router has been dropping the signal. Sometimes the reception drops completely and then later resumes of it own accord. At other times the BB is simply sluggish. When this happens and I change to my 3 mobile Mifi there is no problem with accessing the internet and it is up to speed.
I regularly clean up the junk files on my computer and have checked all router, BT and BB connections.
I am suspecting the problem is either with BT Broadband or the BT router.
I am thinking of trying a new router to see if this solves the problem. I have an Orange router from a couple of years ago which has never been used but if I remember correctly when I tried to use it with BT broadband before, it would not allow me because it was programmed for the Orange customer.
Just wondering if anyone else has problems with the BT Broadband router dropping or the system being sluggish. Also, is there any way to get the Orange router to setup for BT Broadband?
Thanks

Check cables and factory reset the BT router first .0

When I was with BT and using their Home Hub, I quite often experienced the router spontaneously rebooting itself.
An issue experienced by many others according to the BT forums...
Do as JJ Egan suggests first before buying anything new :-)0
