homemaker transfering balance to husbands cc

Hi! I'm new to the forum so wondered if anyone can help? I have a credit card with £2000ish balance. The 0% interest has finished a while back and now paying monthy balance with interest. I didn't return to work after maternity leave and stayed a homemaker (only personal income from child benifits) and so not elegable for a new one. My husband is full time employed and has a couple of cards. He is wanting to transfer my debt to one of his cards to consolidate the payments as he pays mine anyway and the interest is high (had a couple of late payments within 24 hours but none missed and always paid). Mine is Barclaycard and his are Barclaycard and tesco.

Can anyone help?! :o

He could take out the Halifax 34 months at 0% balance transfer card or assuming his Tesco card has a large enough limit, call them and ask if they have any balance transfer offers available at the moment.

IIRC, Tesco are a rare provider that doesn't welcome transfers from cards on a different name.

As said above, it makes much more sense to transfer to a 0% card instead of just 'consolidating', although Barclays are known to offer 0% regularly to existing customers.

Problem being, Barclaycard will not accept a BT from another Barclaycard - which the OP and her partner have.

Think you're right there. Last time I checked online you had to tick a box declaring that the other card was in your name.
Grateful to finally be debt free!

best off getting a new 0% card from non Barclays provider and doing the transfer online. They don't ask the name the other credit card is in usually - just the number on the card.

  • Thank you. Sorry... shouldn't have said consolidating... just finding a card that allows me to transfer to his :undecided
Tesco and Barclaycard are old cards that are sitting empty as previous cards. He is currently with Halifax. Tesco won't accept another name then that option is out. My current card is with Barclaycard so they won't allow a balance transfer.

This is the same as 'consolidating'. What really matters when transferring a balance is to do this to a lower rate, ideally 0%.
0% are manly for new applications, but some providers can offer this to existing customers.
