Gosh, this thread is so heart warming, as usual.
and yet you don't answer the dilemma?
Well, I'm with the 'no, don't pay' crowd. She should have taken more care of her stuff - no reason to be spreading her belongings about.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Why would she need sunglasses inside the plane ? why were they not inside her handbag / case ? It's not like she was going to use them for reading. It's only like having all your money unnecessarily out of your purse then losing it. Her accident - Her problem.
I agree that you should not pay, the fault was her's in not taking better care of her possessions. What else was there spread on the seat, anything that could have been damaged? My only query is were these ordinary sun-glasses or where they reading glasses with lenses which darken according to the amount of light which would explain why they were not in her handbag. I have this type of lens and it does look rather strange to be wearing what look like sunglasses indoors.0 -
No don't pay. She wS careless. However to the person who called them a fashion item, they may not be. I have expensive prescription sunglasses to make me look like everyone else. However I don't wear them to get on a plane.0

No, I don't think you should pay. But be tolerant, we've all done it at some time - in hurrying into our very small plane seat in order to free up the corridor for the impatient other passengers wanting to get to their own seats, we've all dumped stuff on the empty seat next to us while we attempt to negotiate the tiny space allotted each passenger. In this case she was unlucky as the rightful occupier arrived before she was ready and she's learned a very expensive lesson after all!0

No way should you pay. And if she starts, tell her that the broken glass cut your foot, and you are going to sue her!!0

She has hopefully learned to not "spread out" across somebody else's chair. I have no sympathy as other people taking your chair on an aeroplane in any way is annoying at best.
As if travelling isn't stressful enough without some selfish, entitled twit putting you through that. Good that you broke them :-)0 -
Unless they were on her face and you stood on her head, then I don't see how it was your issue. As my mum would have said (if my glasses had been trodden on and broken), "that'll teach you to look after your things better"We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

In this case it was clearly her fault for spreading her possessions on your seat and for knocking them on to the floor. Aeroplanes are confined spaces, you can't be blamed for not seeing something you didn't know was there. She could claim on her insurance. There's no need for you to pay.0

Just adding my "no" vote
