Virgin media contract

Options
Hi all,
Was after some advice if there is anyone who can help? I am a virgin media customer and need to stream my finances and looked into changing my provider for broadband and phone and cancel my TV contract. I rang Virgin to ask about how much it would cost me to do this as my contract states that the minimum service period for the phone and TV was nothing but the broadband was 12 months. I signed the contract in April 2014 as although Virgin had been installed at my house for several years I split up with my husband and the contract was in his name and he wanted to take the equipment and the phone number. The person that I spoke to told me that I need to pay £240 to come out of my contract and when I queried the price as I was only tied into broadband for 12 months he said that he would look into it. After putting me on hold for ten minutes he came back and said that he had looked into my account and there had been some sort of 'glitch in the system' when it was set up and that someone had noticed this at a later date and put it 'right' by changing my terms to 18 months minimum service for each of the services. I told him that I had not bed advised of this and had not signed an agreement and that the only copy of any contract that I have received is the one with the 12 month broadband but he told me that I would have agreed to it on the phone in the initial setup and so they can use that and don't need me to sign another contract. I had just split with my husband and was unsure about whether I would be staying in the house so I cannot imagine that I agreed to such a long term, yet they a adamant that I have and so they can charge me to leave. I have been doing some research regarding their complaints system and can see that they are notoriously poor at replying and responding to any complaints. Could anybody give me any advice about whether they can do this or an alternative address to send my complaint to?

Thanks
Emma.

You could write to Ricard Branson's personal assistants at
    richard.branson(at)fly.virgin.com

State your case succinctly (don't ramble). State what you want. Include your account number. You just might get a reply.

Don't think he'd be interested as he's not involved in Virgin Media anymore.
